Without looking it up . . . lets see . . .

Henry Cooper
Sonny Liston
Floyd Patterson

Me thinks he beat Norton twice but lost to him once . . . same with Frazier. Nope that's it for me, got to go look.

I should of gotten one of the three I missed, the other two I was unaware that there were rematches. -- Good question.

From within that list? Or overall record? I don't think I could ace that question.

No the fights (fighters) are not on that list; I couldn't answer it either, I went looking for something to see if I could stump you.

Hint: There are only three, with two different fighters.

I know of only one......Norton second fight....SD Ali. That one I'm sure of. I can't remember any others for sure. But since you ask, and it seems there is more than one.... I'll guess another one was Jimmy Young, I think that's the best bet, and my second guess would be the first Spinks fight. But I honestly don't know for sure. And I can't remember if he had majority decisions either.....I don't think so.

Very close, the Norton situation threw you off, two of the three were a win and loss to Norton (third fight was a UD for Ali) -- the third fight was indeed Spinks I.

A better question:

How many decision "wins" did he get in fights he actually lost?

Ali only had one SD win, second Norton fight. He lost two SD, Norton I and Spinks I, all the rest of his decisions were UD.

None of his UD fights had close scores (except Norton III), so other than Norton III, I don't see why one would believe he was given any gift decisions, the Shavers scores were 9-5-1 / 9-6 / 9-6.

Only the three SD had close scores (and that's to be expected) and he lost two of them.

IMO the only argument one can make for a gift decision is the third Norton fight. There many felt he got a gift against Norton with all three judges giving him the 15th round: 8-7 / 8-7 / 8-6-1 -- I really don't have an opinion, didn't see the fight and haven't bother to watch it, (I personally find Ali boring to watch) but that night there was almost a riot at Yankee Stadium.

Oh I thought he beat Shavers, I just thought it may have been an SD. Evidently not.

Also--you find Ali boring? Liston, Doug Jones, Foreman, Frazier, Shavers, Bonavena, Patterson--you find these fights boring!?!

That's too subjective. I've watched Ali/Young and Ali/Norton and came up with different results at different times for the same fights.
