Thabiso Mchunu vs Thomas Oosthuizen

Post by handsofstone »

This Saturday on allegedly, fights taking place at Cruiserweight, I thought I was seeing things at first, Oosthhuizen has fought mainly at Super Middleweight although he does have a draw with Chilemba, still this must be a big step up, I remember Mchunu not being the tallest Cruiser but he's been in with the likes of Eddie Chambers, Usyk, Makabu and Durodola so I'm assuming he's gonna be far too big and strong for Oosthuizen who's coming off a wide points loss to former world title challenger and Kovalev victim Mikhalkin

Surely Mchunu is far too big for Oosthuizen??

Oosthuizen wins a razor tight MD, close fight, not a classic but it was competitive, I had Mchunu nicking it 115-113, it was a fight of 2 halves really, Oosthuizen, took the first 4 rounds on my card, he was massive compared to Mchunu, you would've thought he was the natural Cruiser, he was able to keep Mchunu at bay by fighting on the back foot and popping out the jab, Mchunu took too long to get his shots off early doors and Oosthuizen just poked away at him, Mchunu started to let his hands go more in the second half and had most success with the southpaw left hand over the top which had no trouble nailing the taller upright Oosthuizen

I gave Mchunu the last 5 rounds, he was busier, landing the better punches opposed to Oosthuizen's pitty patty shots, Mchunu seemed to want it more down the stretch as well. I wouldn't argue at the result it was close so hopefully no rematch as it was pretty shite to watch 2 southpaw counter punchers with no power
