Kristian Laight

Post by REEVE »

Just seen on facebook that kris has retired from boxing after 300 pro fights

Hats off to kris to only get stopped 5 times in 300 fights is unbelievable - he has been a brilliant servant to british boxing

All the best for your retirement

I remember kris making his debut I never thought he would get to 300 fights in a million years but he’s been a great servant to the sport and I wish him the very best of luck for the future well done mate

I though he night be packing it in after 300. What a service to British boxing. Take that MBE off Joshua and issue it to a guy that really deserves it :salut:

Honestly I thought he would do 301 but whatever, the man has done an incredible job.

Physically he looks capable of doing another 100! But after you hit a milestone the next milestone seems a very long way away!
It shows that even the likes of Laight suffer from the, stress, the nerves and the sheer hardness of this brutal sport.
Enjoy your retirement, life will be a bit boring but a lot easier

I also thought he would want to beat Peter Buckley's total. It seems unlikely that a British boxer will ever again have more than 300 bouts but I can remember when Boxing News proclaimed that no British boxer would ever again have 100 bouts (possibly when Winston Burnett reached that landmark).
There again, I can remember when they used to debate whether we would ever have another world heavyweight champion (after Bob Fitzsimmons). We never know what surprises are around the corner. Who would have thought, even 20 years ago, that a British cyclist would win the Tour de France!

well, theres already a brit len wickwar with around 450 fights (340 wins), so maybe he didnt see it as a big deal to out do buckleys 300, hed still be way short the record

There are a number of boxers with more bouts but in the modern era Buckley at 300 was the man to beat.

maybe laight doesnt really care since it wouldnt be any type of all time record, i mean, get 301 and there are still a 'number' of guys with more

who has the most fights in brit history? not a guy with 301, so maybe he just saw 300 as a nice even number to make his personal milestonr, and saw it as trivial and twaty to do 1 more just to say he fought more then peter buckley
