Jose Uzcategui vs. Ezequiel Maderna - September 28, 2018

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

IBF super middleweight champion Jose Uzcategui, the power-punching boogeyman of the 168-pounders, will face Ezequiel Maderna in the 10-round, non-title main event on Friday, Sept. 28 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California.

And, in the co-feature, Jerwin Ancajas, the world’s longest-reigning 115-pound world champion, is ready to add another defense to his résumé. The southpaw Filipino sensation will make the sixth defense of his IBF junior bantamweight world title against the hard-charging Alejandro Santiago.

Ancajas-Santiago and Uzcátegui-Maderna will stream live in the United States beginning at 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ — the new multi-sport, direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service from The Walt Disney Company's Direct-to-Consumer & International segment in conjunction with ESPN.

The undercard will stream on ESPN+ beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET and includes a matchup of former 122-pound world champions: Jessie Magdaleno will take on Rico Ramos in a 10-round featherweight bout. Also appearing on the ESPN+ broadcast will be 118-pound contender Joshua Greer Jr. (17-1-1, 9 KOs) making his Top Rank debut in a 10-rounder against Giovanni Delgado (16-7, 9 KOs); the return of Filipino featherweight contender Genesis Servania (31-1, 14 KOs); and 18-year-old featherweight sensation Christopher Zavala (1-0) in a four-rounder.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with MP Promotions and Zanfer Promotions, tickets for this all-action card go on sale Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. PST. Priced at $105, $78.75, $52.50, and $26.25, including facility fees, tickets can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com or at the Oracle Arena box office. The Oracle Arena box office is open Monday-Friday from 12-5 p.m.

In super middleweight it was showed that WBSS tournament was something special. Champions outside tournament won´t fight each other. Why Uzcategui, Benavidez and Ramirez did not fight each other ???

I don't get why he's not making a defence of his belt.
What is he? A Thai boxer?

Maderna out, Uzcategui needs new opponent

Jose Uzcategui needs a new opponent for September 28.

The reason is that Maderna can’t get a visa yet, and Top Rank doesn’t want to risk him outright not being able to get one. So instead, they’ll search for a new foe for Maderna, the IBF super middleweight titleholder.

The good news is there probably won’t be any big step down in quality if Top Rank can find someone quickly. Maderna was a non-title tune-up opponent in the first place, so replacing him with a fighter of similar quality should be doable.

Gabe Rosado Ready To Step In, Fight Jose Uzcategui in Oakland

Now, Gabe Rosado has thrown his name into the ring as the potential replacement.

“I would do the fight. The whole point [about turning down the previous offer] was to do it in the states.”

Rosado continued: “I just made the call to my people and they’re texting Carl [Moretti; the Top Rank Vice President].

The fight against Maderna was supposed to be a non-title bout, scheduled for ten rounds, though when offered to Rosado it was for the title. “I want the strap.”

Gabe Rosado (24-11, 14 knockouts) has been in with the best the game has to offer and is keen on Uzcategui’s style.

“I’d put him as the top guy at ‘68. He’s a beast; very aggressive but I can use that against him. I can beat him.”

The fight in Oakland would have a nice Hispanic crowd that the Philadelphia native Rosado feels would support him more so than Uzcátegui. “I got a big Mexican following. It’ll be a neutral crowd but I think more people know me. He’s new to the game.”

Russell Peltz has managed Rosado’s career off and on for the last nine years. Peltz was in Glendale last weekend with Michelle Rosado, co-promoting the Top Rank card for ESPN and may now have reason to be in Oakland for their next showing if Rosado can get his wish.

“I think the fight can happen.” said Rosado.

How effective would Gabe even be at 168?

The former 154lb-er Gabriel Rosado has never defeated a full blown super middleweight fighter.

He has faced only one fighter over a 12½ period weighing more than 160lbs, with the victory coming against a journeyman that weighed 161lbs and had also lost all three of his previous bouts prior to facing Rosado.

In the last decade, Gabe has only ever competed in eleven (legitimate) middleweight bouts, losing seven of them and has never beaten a genuine world-class 160lb-er.

The middleweights that Rosado tasted defeat against are listed below:

• Martin Murray
• Willie Monroe Jr
• David Lemieux
• Peter Quillin
• Gennady Golovkin
• Derek Ennis
• Fernando Guerrero

Therefore, a potential bout between Jose Uzcategui and Gabriel Rosado will inevitably end up being a monumentally awful mismatch that would be much akin to the appalling farce of a fight that we witnessed between Gennady Golovkin and Vanes Martirosyan.

I really hope the athletic commission flatly-refuses to sanction this bout if the promoters ever try to make it! :brick:
