3rd Cuban Olympiad

Cuban Olympiad Boxing

A total of eight countries have already confirmed participation in the boxing tournament of the Third Cuban Sports Olympiad, from April 30 to May 5.

Venezuela, Dominican Republic, China and the USA will send complete teams to the tournament, to be held in the city of Camaguey, 350 miles east of the Cuban capital.

Also that Kazakhstan, Argentina, Colombia and Guatemala have confirmed their attendance and expressed his optimism for an increase of participants in the competition.

Cuba fixed the number of Cuban fighters per category at six, in consequence, there will be 66 Cuban boxers fighting, including his Olympic and World champions.

USA Boxing Team will be training since April 15 to 24 at Colorado Springs.

USA won't participate

USA denies permission to his boxers to go to Cuba

Havana, (AFP) - The government of the United States denied the permission to travel to Cuba to the equipment of boxing of that country that he tried to compete in III the Olympic Games of Cuban Sport, revealed Sarbelio Fuentes, head of trainers of the national selection of the island. "We finished receiving the information that the American team, from nine boxers, did not receive the authorization to compete in our Olympic Games (national games)", said Fuentes in declarations to local journalists.

Nevertheless, the director needed that the match of boxing of the local Olympic Games "will be the one of greater quality of all the events of that sport celebrated in the island in the last years" and the press considers it like "the jewel of the Olympic Games".

The boxing competition will be made in the Cuban capital from April 29th of April to May 6th. The 3rd Olympic Games of Cuban Sport were inaugurated officially Monday afternoon.

According to Fuentes, they will attend 153 boxers of 11 nations, among them Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Brazil, Guatemala, El Salvador, China, Kazajstán and the host, Cuba.

"Cuba will present all its Olympic and world-wide champions, among them Guillermo Rigondeaux and Odlanier Solís", aimed.

The chinese have done very good, I see. They are going to be very dangerous in Beijing. I predict them to win a couple of medals.
The 69 kg boxer must be Yudiel Napoles, the brother of Yusiel who fights at 81 kg.

Yeah, teh Chinese have strong boxers in the lower weights but at WELTERWEIGHT and SUPER-HEAVYWEIGHT!!! this is unheard of surely!
We saw Jorge Herrera over here when he won and lost against an Irish boxer called Karl Brabazon – and I see he got stopped by the Chinese. :box:
