World Youth Championships

Post by mickey1975 »

The international judges were at it again robbing Leeds Hope Price in the final. It’s on YouTube if anyone can stick it up. He’s called Ivan Price on it.

It was a bit scrappy, Price really should've used his height and reach better...

while there are a lot of amateur robberies, there are also a lot of whine and moan fests whenever theres a close fight

I thought he definitely won the last two, the last easily. I personally would have given him the first as well but am trying to see it from the judges point of view.

Local lad to me Karol Itauma is competing. Apparently he and his younger brother are outstanding.

good for price, hes obviously a top of the class junior am, reminds me a lot of luke campbell

but dont agree he was robbed vs that american, price did a lot of bouncing around and fiddling around with hand feints and stuff but in terms of what actually landed i felt you could score closely for the american, felt like a super close fight imo. usually when price would land the american would repsond and hit him with something back, and price often gave up his height and so was in punching range for those responses

pretty much any close am fight gets turned into 'robbery!'

Oh well, he’s no 1 in the world now. His brother won bronze in the European juniors the same day losing on points to a Russian in Russia.

Itauma won gold too. I didn’t catch the performance though, anyone see it?

Great achievement

I just saw the last round which it looked liked he lost. Both landed punches but I thought he was outscored in that one,

Seems it was a close fight. Itauma looks decent though. I'll certainly try and follow his progress. Any idea of his ancestry? His surname and looks make me think Polynesia/Melanesia but there's not many South Pacific islanders in Medway are there? - although I do remember being in Chicagos in Maidstone many years ago chatting to a load of Fijians who were over for a year playing rugby for Maidstone Police. One of them stopped a fight merely by grabbing some bloke's wrist as he was about to throw a punch. The bloke turned and looked at the Fijian and wisely decided not to take it any further. Lovely blokes but you wouldn't have wanted want to mess with them.

Think his dads side is from Nigeria and his Mums side is Eastern European ( Serbia maybe )

He’s only been boxing 3/4 years apparently , won numerous national titles, European silver too I think.

I’m hearing he has a younger, bigger brother who’s doing very well too.

Dubois’ sis is flying
