Joseph Parker vs. Junior Fa in Preliminary Talks For The Future

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

According to the New Zealand Herald, there have been preliminary discussions for a domestic heavyweight showdown between Joseph Parker and Junior Fa.

In terms of interest, local reporters in New Zealand believe it would rival the grudge match between David Tua and Shane Cameron.

The Parker vs. Fa showdown would have a slow build - where the contest would be built up over a period of at least 18 months.

Parker and Fa have fought four times as amateurs with a split of two wins each.

18 months seems like a long time. Parker does need a few decent wins though if this is gonna be a bigger sell down under.

In 18 months, Parker should have at least 3-4 fights. Easy. He’ll likely fight at the end of the year too.

I figured with them both being from New Zealand these guys would go for this big Regional Showdown at some point.

As of this moment I'd heavily favor Parker. If it's 18 months from now perhaps Fa can improve dramatically between now and then...he'd need to.

Fa has looked really awful considering he was highly considered coming in as a pro.

Is that better or worse than 'sucks'?

I had high hopes for Uaine "Junior" Fa. I thought a guy who was 2 and 2 with Parker as an amateur should have something about him, but his career doesn't seem to be progressing much.

Judging from some of his fights against far less physically imposing opponents, he's going to need to seriously up his game if he is going to be a match for Parker as a pro. The signs are not good.

basically, compared to serious prospects, contenders, champs, etc.....he is nowhere near that level. hes already struggled several times vs pretty weak opposition. just not much of a player at all imo and a ko loss waiting to happen. the nz background and am history with parker might set him up for a big domestic showdown, but hell lose that and i cant see him really doing much else

i watched him vs usyk in the wsb the other day, and usyk pretty much walked him down and bloodied and beat him up. not the typical usyk boxing performance.

fa seems sort of a physically weak fragile type despite his size

The Mrs and I saw Fa last time out.
Umm.. He's worked a lot on his fitness, but it seems the lighter he comes in, the softer his punches.
We were only 20 feet from ringside and I swear you could barely hear his punches land. Unless Hush Puppy make boxing gloves, he is doing something wrong.
This is a huge mismatch. If Parker even has a modicum of ambition, he will box the snot out of Fa for however many rounds it goes.

I hope the talks involve Fa being told that he needs to get some decent wins.

Given that Fa recently managed majority decisions over clubfighters Craig Lewis and Daniel Tai, he's probably already reached his limit of how far he can go.
