altho i dont think oscar can dent mayorga's solid chin, i do think he can EASILY outbox a guy who looked like an amateur against cory spinks, who, at his best is not in oscar's league (even a slightly faded oscar that comes in with a long layoff)Ben Keilty wrote:DeLaHoya by mid round Ko. Mayorga chances v De La Hoya
ah yes...yori boy campas...mayorga even makes old yori boy look like a skilled boxer!!hitman_hatton1 wrote:oscar has always been good against face first sluggers like mayorga.jamesmcdonnell wrote:DLH is a part time boxer who hasn't looked impressive in quite some time. de la hoya is an all time great and mayorga is just a slugger with a big mouth.
how dare he challenge de la hoya with his primitive skills.de la hoya by a late stoppage.
I won't be that surprised if DLH loses.
think de la hoya-campas and this fight will be similar.
i'm getting in the beers and pringles and looking forward to see mayorga handed a lesson.![]()
let the class begin.![]()
Maybe he wont stop him but i can only see a one sided beating. Mayorga will lose all hope after a few rounds and after being stopped by Tito he showed he is not as tough as he talks himself up to be.shoutout2u wrote:altho i dont think oscar can dent mayorga's solid chin, i do think he can EASILY outbox a guy who looked like an amateur against cory spinks, who, at his best is not in oscar's league (even a slightly faded oscar that comes in with a long layoff)Ben Keilty wrote:DeLaHoya by mid round Ko. What, because he didn't take another 6 rounds of nuclear bombs bouncing off his chin he's not tough?? You have to be joking.Ben Keilty wrote: Mayorga will lose all hope after a few rounds and after being stopped by Tito he showed he is not as tough as he talks himself up to be.
Anyone who lets Trinidad take two or three free shots to his chin and is still standing is definitely tough mate.
Dumb yes, but still hard as nails.

This is interesting, i wasn't considering it myself but i was at this fight and there were a few voices on the plane home suggesting Oscar took a dive.stujones wrote:No chance, the guy was gutted... He was in the fight and I actually think might have been saving himself for a big finale.MightyWarrior wrote:Mayorga has a shot at winning this - those heavy hands could cause ODH to have a major rethink as to why he's still boxing these days. Surely he doesn't need the cash, and beating Mayorga wont add anything to his legacy - what's the point of this fight from Oscar's P.O.V?
Mayorga says Oscar took a dive against Hopkins....anyone else thought Oscar pounding the canvas in frustration looked a little.....fake? 8)
As for this fight i give Mayorga a serious chance, he is fit, wild and crude and don't forget Oscar has been seriously inactive lately and hasn't looked impressive for a long time. If Mayorga cranks up the pressure and starts winging away can Oscar take it? Remember how he tired late against Mosley and that was 3 odd years ago. If Oscar had a whack on him he might be able to keep Mayorga at bay but he has never been a massive hitter and Mayorga takes a good dig. Not that i want DLH to lose far from it but i think this is far from a formality and a definate live fight.

If DeLaHoya starts to totally out box him all his toughness will go, Duran was tough as nails and he quit. When a fighter is getting beat up and totally outclassed all his toughness seems to disappear.MightyWarrior wrote:What, because he didn't take another 6 rounds of nuclear bombs bouncing off his chin he's not tough?? Also when he stuck his chin out he knew the punch was coming it is a lot easier to take a punch when you see it coming.
I cant see DLH stopping Mayorga, he is not a huge puncher, and I doubt he has enough hunger and maybe energy left to pressure Mayorga to a ref stoppage. I can see three possible endings to this; Mayorga gets disqualified, Mayora stops DLH with wild flurries or DLH wins on points (most likely, although whether it will be fair is another matter). I will proably put a few quid on the Mayorga stoppage and cover it a bit with a bet on DLH points.
seen it coming or not its still a flush left hook from Tito Trinidad, easy for spectators and Larry Merchant to dismiss as 'easy to take' but probably not so easy to taste one yourself. Also when he stuck his chin out he knew the punch was coming it is a lot easier to take a punch when you see it coming.
DLH did take Vargas out but Mayorga's resistance is 100x that of Vargas. Vargas had his chances early on in that fight though, he nearly had DLH out of the ropes at one stage. Speed kills though and I can see DLH busting up Mayorga's face but not really hurting him, while Oscar SHOULD have enough smarts to avoid Mayorga's looping overhands and wild hooks.
THis is providing though DLH hasn't lost a step or two while he's been off, and doesn't comply with Mayorgas wishes for a toe-to-toe standoff. If he does he could be in trouble, but then again if he boxes smart he could 'win the fight lost the night' kind of thing. So in conclusion, I've no idea whats going to happen. cheers.

Punchers chance
De La Hoya will have to be on top form to win
No doubt that this will be a cracker and it is definately a live fight!!
Trinidad's win doesn't mean anything - it was at middleweight! I reckon De La Hoya too would get beaten by trinidad at middleweight if he didn't box but fought trinidad like mayorga did
The most important thing here is the way Mayorga destroyed Vernon Forrest in 2 rounds who fights similar classy - technical style to de la hoya
I know Mayorga saying all sorts but he knows this is the best and biggest fight and I bet in his heart De La Hoya's a bit of a legend. He would love to beat him more than any other fighter to cement a legacy. This would by far be his best win
De La Hoya hasn't fought for a long time and for me since Vargas he has lost to Mosley, Sturm and Hopkins in his last 3 big fights
For De La Hoya to win he has to be at his best or better than his last few fights. - Good fight
You have to admit De La Hoya has better chance (easier fights) against the other champions, Dzinziruk, Karmazin, Garcia.

Re: Punchers chance
I don't reckon DLH would beat Karmazin, he's not a genuine light middleweight, and he is only fighting Mayorga because Mayorga isn't a natural light middle either.Boxing Addict wrote:De La Hoya will have to be on top form to win

Karmazin would beat Mayorga with rounds to spare.

Why does everyone say Mayorga is unskilled. His punching technique, speed and combinations are fantastic - he doesn't care much for defense but hes prepared to take 2 to land 1 kind of guy. Could his speed and pressure get to DLH? MAybe, DLH probably outboxs him.
Just watched a preview of the fight, apparently Mayorga only trained 4weeks for Trinidad and hes training harder this time.

I don't think Karmazin would beat Mayorga easily
Karmazins been beaten before
Just a tricky southpaw that Ouma couldn't handle
Mayorga hits a lot harder than Ouma when his on fire especially early on
Karmazin , Dzinziruk suit De la Hoya's technical boxing style better and he would find them easier
But Mayorga is a wild brawler and uncomfortable for classy operators to fight - just ask Forrest who was the best welter in the world at the time, also six heads lewis (boxer type) who got destroyed.
Mayorga at best can be a boxers nightmare - He can't fight southpaws though
This is the best fight that De La Hoya could pick -the most exciting anyhow

I think there are still question marks over Mayorgas power above Welterweight. He has only fought twice at Light Middle and both fights went the distance, although neither fighter had been stopped before. He hasn't stopped an opponent in more than three years, not since Forrest in January 2003.
I remember watching the Andrew Lewis fight and the commentator saying he was amazed at the huge knuckles on Mayorga. Just wondering, do hand or knuckle sizes make much difference inside a glove?

Further to the question on the hand / knuckle size, the official HBO tale of the tape shows both Mayorga and DLH with 7' wrists, DLH with a 9' fist and Mayorga with a 12' fist.

Well seeing as 99% of the world's population picked ODH to win, it hardly makes you Nostradamus mateBen Keilty wrote:It hard to be so right all the timeMightyWarrior wrote:What, because he didn't take another 6 rounds of nuclear bombs bouncing off his chin he's not tough?? And Mayorga proved himself as tough as ever. That was a hellacious shot he got up from in the 1st, and looked right as rain.
Took plenty of other bombs too.
I thought Nady was late stopping the fight by about 20 shots.
Fantastic win by Oscar, proved how tough he is as well. That was an electric first round, reminded me of Trinidad/Vargas...
Never been a huge Oscar fan, but have to give it to him now - last night he was just outstanding.
