The Contender Is Back

Post by diddy »

From the looks of the cast I’d make John Jackson a sizable favorite to win it. A lot of nobodies and journeymen on here. Jackson has a ton of talent. He should win comfortably.

jackson and khtrov seem like the faves, then maybe john thompson. not sure anyone here is really so good that they couldnt be upset though

a lot of sort of obscure fighters

will most of these only be 5 rounds? fewer rounds = upsets more likely imo

so far john thompson beat lamar russ by tko (injury)

and in week two eric walker won a ud over john jackson, didnt see the fight but wide scores, with a 50-44 in there. so thats one of the stronger guys on paper already out (jackson)

like i said, none of these guys really seems so good that they couldnt lose, esp in a 5 round format where a bit of luck goes farther

I don't even know where the hell to watch this. Brandon Adams isn't horrible. I can see him being a favorite after John Jackson seemed to have lost.

Khytrov
Thompson
Adams

Probably the order I'd say.

This is how I ranked them before the first show started:

1. Shane Mosley Jr.
2. Ievgen Khytrov
3. Eric Walker
4. John Jackson
5. John Thompson
6. Tyrone Brunson
7. Marcos Hernandez
8. Lamar Russ
9. Daniel Valdivia
10. Devaun Lee
11. Morgan Fitch
12. Brandon Adams
13. Quatavious Cash
14. Malcolm McAllister
15. Gerald Sherell
16. Michael Moore

Episode 1: John Thompson won by TKO 2 against Lamar Russ
Episode 2: Eric Walker won by UD 5 against John Jackson
Episode 3: Michael Moore won by UD 5 against Malcolm McAllister
Episode 4: Gerald Sherell won by KO 3 against Quatavious Cash
Episode 5: Marcos Hernandez won by SD 5 against Daniel Valdivia
Episode 6: Shane Mosley Jr. won by KO 5 against Devaun Lee
Episode 7: Ievgen Khytrov won by KO 3 against Morgan Fitch
Brandon Adams won by KO 4 against Tyrone Brunson

There were a couple of upsets among the lower rated boxers, but I think those were instances where the better boxer did not win. McAllister said he held back and should have thrown more. Cash left himself open and said that he could have fought smarter. Adams won in an upset over Brunson. Adams had been inactive for three years. Brunson said he underestimated Adams' power.

I felt that he got robbed in Australia. I think he’s better than people think he is. He’s in his physical prime and I think it is an advantage for his father’s trainer to be on the show.

One judge scored it 77-75 for Mosley Jr. The other two scored it 77-76 for Toussaint. Mosley Jr. was interviewed after the fight and I agreed with him. I thought he deserved to win.

Is there any reason that a number of the fighters are indeffinetly suspended by various athletic commissions?

I asked myself the same question and I am not sure of the reason or reasons. Perhaps they are suspended indefinitely because they are on the show and are not allowed to have any fights outside of the show until they lose. For example, Lamar Russ lost on the first episode and now he is scheduled to fight again. I assume this type of suspension is removed once they are available after being done with the show.

It's a thing on BoxRec that should be ignored. Was dumb for BoxRec to put it on their site.

In a month. Three more fights have to happen and that’s three weeks. I think Thompson vs. Walker is the first fight of the quarterfinals.

Episode 7: There were two fights on this episode.
Ievgen Khytrov won by KO 3 against Morgan Fitch
Brandon Adams won by KO 4 against Tyrone Brunson

Quarterfinals

Eric Walker (No. 55 BoxRec) vs. John Thompson (No. 50 BoxRec)
Walker placed his name on bracket board to fight Thompson, Thompson felt that was a sign of disrespect for his boxing ability, Walker said he saw something when Thompson fought Russ

Ievgen Khytrov (No. 18 BoxRec) vs. Brandon Adams (No. 65 BoxRec)
These are the two remaining spots, so they have to fight each other.

Gerald Sherell (No. 131 BoxRec) vs. Michael Moore (No. 191 BoxRec)
Sherell placed his name on bracket board to fight Moore, Sherell said that they would rather lose to each other than anyone else, real reason could be that one of them is more likely to go to the semifinals if they fight each other

Shane Mosley Jr. (No. 85 BoxRec) vs. Marcos Hernandez (No. 98 BoxRec)
Mosley Jr. chose to be the last fight in the quarterfinals because he said he needs time to make adjustments.
