Round-by-Round: Danny Garcia vs. Shawn Porter - 8 September 2018

Very lacklustre fight. Part of boxing but not what you hope to see.

Wasn't really lackluster, just kinda one sided. It was pretty spirited early on, but Barrionuevo got all of his resolve beaten out of him with that body attack, and was doing all he could just to keep standing by the end. Ugas just kept doing what he was doing because there was no need for him to do more. He was in full control.

I found is uneventful from rd 2. Not my type of fight.

I like Ugas so I didn't mind it, but yeah I'd prefer he be matched against more competitive opposition in the future. On paper it was a quality match. In the ring though. Ugas was the boss.

It'll amost certainly be competitive. Not sure if it'll necessarily be exciting. Thurman vs Garcia was competitive. Kinda dull though.

I wouldn't think trying to move and box on the outside would favor Porter here as that hasn't normally been his game, but it worked well in that round for him I thought. He's in and out, and pretty quick with his attacks not giving Garcia the chance to time him well with counters. At least in that round. Still a lot of fight to go.

Even though Porter did well in the 1st this has been Danny Garcia's kinda fight so far, and he did better work in the 2nd I thought.

Landing the harder cleaner punches.

Porter getting more aggressive, and fighting in more the mauling kinda style he's known for, but I'd still give Garcia the slight edge that round as I thought he landed the cleaner shots. Razor thin round though.

Who advised Porter to use these awful tactics? You’re a brawler not a boxer. What is this crap?

Most clear cut round of the fight for either guy so far that round. Clear Porter round. He was much busier, and landed quite a bit more.

Another fairly close one. Slight edge to Garcia.

Garcia rd 5 just edges it. Lands three big body punches. Nice.

Porter takes the 6th. This is as close as I would've thought it'd be so far.

Another good one for Porter. The first time in the fight I've seen either of these guys take 2 rounds in a row convincingly.

3 in a row for Porter now. He's found another gear in the 2nd half. Garcia still hasn't.

Hard to score. Activity v clean and strong punches. 8 I give to Garcia.

Even fight through 8 for me. Momentum clearly with Porter though.

Garcia's best round in quite a while there. Could go either way. I'd give it to Danny, but if you had it for Shawn I wouldn't argue. So far Danny's rounds have been close while Porter's have been more clear.

9 Garcia, clean left hooks and a clean right. Close fight!

Another real close one. In the old days a lot of rounds like these would be scored even. In the modern era the judges almost always pick a winner no matter how narrow the margin. I'd give it to Danny ever so slightly.
