Adam Kownacki: "1 or 2 More Fights - Then I Go For a World Title"
In the telecast opener, heavyweight slugger Adam Kownacki (18-0, 14 KOs) remained undefeated by scoring a unanimous decision victory over former world champion Charles Martin (25-2-1, 23 KOs) in a sensational action-packed fight. Each of the judges scored the fight 96-94 in favor of the hometown favorite Kownacki, who was fighting in front of a boisterous contingent of Polish fans.
In a contender for the 2018 Round of the Year, the 10th and final round saw tremendous back-and-forth action with both fighters trading devastating exchanges while doing their best to stay on their feet. The two fighters combined to land 62 punches in the round, 57 of which were power punches.
"I think I proved tonight that I'm a top 10 fighter," Kownacki told SHOWTIME Sports® reporter Jim Gray. "I think I need one or two more fights before I go for a title fight. I have a great team behind me. Whatever they decide, that's the route we are going to take.
"I thought I won the decision a little wider than the cards, but Charles came to fight all night. He was in shape and coming forward and I had to dig deep."
Martin, who was punished by a slow start, was gracious in defeat and gave credit to Kownacki.
"I'm a late starter, but he was the better man tonight," he said. "Looks are very deceiving, but it's boxing. I put up a hell of a fight and went the 10 rounds. I just came up short."

In 1 or 2 fights..
There are only 2 world champions at the moment.. bar the fake WBA beltholders.
In 2 fights he can put himself in a mandatory position, easily.. It would be big step up in competition..
Breazeale, Whyte, Ortiz.. or another top challenger..
Apart from that, I don't se AJ picking him as a voluntary as he will be flooded with mandatories and Wilder may pick him...

Had it been 12 rounds.. Martin may have won this.. He admitted he was a slow starter..astradamus wrote: ↑09 Sep 2018, 09:03 I'd love to see a rematch, but neither should think they got a chance against AJ or Povetkin or something.
Who knows what would have happened in the AJ fight.. Had it gone past 3 rounds, Martin may have switched on..
Re: Adam Kownacki: "1 or 2 More Fights - Then I Go For a World Title"
He better be careful about who he fights in those 1 or 2 more fights. Or he better get in better shape. One or the other.

All 3 of those beat him, imo. He may trouble Breazeale, but I'd have him a slight underdog based on this performance.
He needs to stay well clear of Ortiz and Whyte.
Re: Adam Kownacki: "1 or 2 More Fights - Then I Go For a World Title"
Kownacki vs Breazeale would be real interesting. 50/50 kinda matchup I think. He might be competitive with Whyte too, but Whyte's superior conditioning would almost certainly win out in the end.Deleted_Scenes wrote: ↑09 Sep 2018, 13:30All 3 of those beat him, imo. Yeh. I only mentioned those guys because they’re the closest to anyone else to being in a mandatory position.
Povetkin is already WBA and WBO #1.. but the fight with AJ just the WBA mandatory fight. Either way if he loses he will likely drop from the WBO ranks anyway.
Re: Adam Kownacki: "1 or 2 More Fights - Then I Go For a World Title"
Joshua has both belts right? You telling me the WBO doesn't consider him taking on Povetkin as satisfying their mandatory when he's their #1 ranked guy? What kinda stupid sh*t is that?Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑09 Sep 2018, 13:38gilgamesh wrote: ↑09 Sep 2018, 13:32Kownacki vs Breazeale would be real interesting. 50/50 kinda matchup I think. Something like that. They’ve already said they’re ordering a final eliminator soon. I think WBO usually enforce the mandatory fight every 18 months? I think..gilgamesh wrote: ↑09 Sep 2018, 13:39Joshua has both belts right? You telling me the WBO doesn't consider him taking on Povetkin as satisfying their mandatory when he's their #1 ranked guy? Re: Adam Kownacki: "1 or 2 More Fights - Then I Go For a World Title"
To get a shot he needs to fight some top-10 or near-top-10 guys, not just any random competitors. Miller and Whyte, for example, deserved the shot more, than Kownacki. And Breazeale is about the same worthy. Considering the fact, that the nearest challengers are Povetkin and likely Fury, Miller and Whyte should fight someone else as well as Breazeale. Well, Miller already has a scheduled fight. And Adam has just fought in a hard bout. Maybe after he takes a rest and fights someone decent, like Parker or Ortiz, or H.Fury, the today's challengers will lose their opportunities, so Kownacki will be closer to a shot in a case of winning next fight or two.

Will have to see what his ABC rankings are in a couple of days.DrDuke wrote: ↑09 Sep 2018, 13:51 To get a shot he needs to fight some top-10 or near-top-10 guys, not just any random competitors. Anyone reckons he beats Chisora?

Martin wasn't that gracious ln defeat. He said he thought he thought he won and only mumbled that better man tonight comment later as an afterthought. I thought Kow won by a wider margin than the judges. The TV guys had a better scorecard. But with boxing judges I'm incredulous when they don't have everything totally backwards and upside down. Luckily it wasn't Las Vegas, thought NY is almost as bad.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑09 Sep 2018, 07:49 In the telecast opener, heavyweight slugger Adam Kownacki (18-0, 14 KOs) remained undefeated by scoring a unanimous decision victory over former world champion Charles Martin (25-2-1, 23 KOs) in a sensational action-packed fight. Kow seemed to be in very excellent shape and not breathing hard at the end. His arms were tired though from punching too much in the first half. He also takes an excellent punch. Two things for him are 1.pacing himself and, 2. Working on strength training. He hit Martin with a million punches but wasn't able to put him down or even hurt him badly.

It wasn’t a bad loss for Martin.
Considering he hadn’t fough in over a year and only fought like 6 minutes since his loss to AJ in April 2016..

Now just waiting on Andy Ruiz.. most of these HW’s are good/decent. They just need a little push. Some motivation. Some good fights can amd should be made.

Is that what Gerald Washington, Artur Szpilka, Johann Duhaupas, Eric Molina, Dominic Breazeale, Charles Martin, Alex Leapai, Francesco Pianeta, Mariusz Wach, Manuel Charr, Odlanier Solis, Albert Sosnowski, and Kevin Johnson did to get their title shots?

Hard fight to score. Commentator did under value some of Martin’s work inside. However, only Kow was ever winning. Martin lacklustre jab and horrid footwork impede his progress. I liked the Polish lad.Ilya Muromets wrote: ↑09 Sep 2018, 14:51Martin wasn't that gracious ln defeat. AJ did beat some 'umble into him. That helped, but he is still not champion material even in his best day. Which was yesterday, when he lost to a pudgy little feather fisted blown up cruiser.

Kownacki throws alot of punches and eats some too..
Hes entertaining but i dont see him troubling the top guys of the division at all...
He should fight Dom Breazeale & Luis Ortiz.... Probably in that order as i'm 50/50 on Breazeale and Luis Ortiz will be 50 years old by then.
