Gammer v Krence

Post by Old bones Ian »

Have just read that Gammer v Krence is going to be for the vacant British Title.
How has Krence earned a chance? I know he's a good honest pro, and i'm not slagging him off, but he has won only 1 of his last 5 . He lost the others by stoppage although in good company against Skelton , Chagaev and one against the guy he's going to fight Gammer.

I would just like to see him get a couple of wins before being allowed to box Gammer.

I agree Topper, it does all seem a bit strange. Krence shouldn't be contesting a British title in all honesty.

Guess it shows that we don't have alot outside of the top 2 in Britain, and it doesn't look like theres much going to come through from the amatuer ranks at the moment either.

David Dolan is turning pro soon, but i'm not sure if he's going to be a heavy or a cruiser, apart from that i've not heard of anyone who's looking likely to be coming through.

What other names are there?

With Williams and Skelton tied up who else is there? Sprott is the only other name that springs to mind.

Gammer has already battered him once.

You cannot really blame any British heavyweight with any ambition from overlooking the British title. The British Heavyweight scene is absolutely piss poor, and has been for quite some time now, I cannot see any reason for optimism either.

Yes, James but it is still a prestigious belt - why doesn't Sprott attempt to win a lonsdale for keeps.

I can see what Nickd is saying, but I still think Krence needed an eliminator before fighting Gammar (having already lost an eliminator) - maybe against one of the usual suspects : Long, Kenna, Mcdermott, Llewellyn, Steeds, etc.

Its not looking good in the heavys at the moment, but we've never really had a golden era have we?

We've produced world class occaionally, but in Britain we have not had a really good era when there have been more than 2 or maybe 3 at any one time.

Would it be a cardinal sin at this point to utter the name Harrison? Yes, groans all round, but remove Williams, Skelton & Sprott from the picture, you surely have to have Harrison next, despite the absolute pair of jokes that have taken the place of performances in his last two fights.

This is all hypothetical of course. Even if the bbbofc did suggest Harrison (I assume a party from somewhere advised his name to be off the list) then obviously the main blocks to Harrison taking a British title fight would be a) his ego (can he still have one?) and b) the fact that if he were to step into a British ring again he'd probably get the worst beating of his carrer (this being from the mouths of the fans.)

Anyway, that's all. Sprott is of course the obvious one, so it would be interesting to know why his name wasn't involved (does he have other routes mapped out?)

Also, I don't think it's been mentioned yet - Julius Francis is apprently fighting again (21st May) against Lansdowne. (Wayne Llewelyn is also getting back on his feet on the same card)

As for who can pick up the mantle when Skelton, Williams etc go, I don't know. Darren Morgan has appeared on a couple of SN cards, so maybe they see some potential in him. Rogan likewise. Ian Millarvie is apprently off to train in the US, with a couple of fights there as well (Audrey perhaps? :) )

Not a cardinal sin at all.... However, I don't know if you saw the Arthur fight on TV but apparently Warren has offered Gammar to Harrison in a British title fight (and by how he suggested fully expected A force to win) and Aud turned it down electing to go to the US circuit.

So it looks like he is out of the equation, but yes I would much rather see Harrison there than Krence (after all he beat Krence aswell).

maybe Krence is a strange choice..... but there isnt anyone else apart from maybe Steeds and last i heard he was pissing about with a Riddick Bowe fight.......

Sprott is prob the best of the rest but hes busy with bigger fish on the EU circuit.....

after that theres no one.....

so let Gammer meet Krence...why not ... Krencey has been in with good fighters of late.... and Gammer (we all seem to be forgetting) is a decent prospect.... i see him maturing into a top european and fringe world level boxer

with Gammer and Krence both fit and up for it... i dont see why this fight should disgrace the Lonsdale name

Think i read that Steeds managment have offered Harrison a fight with Mickey.

Don't know how serious an offer it was, or if its another Riddick Bowe pie in the sky deal.

True, but do bear in mind Gammer is way overdue his shot and an eliminator would just delay that.

I am sure I read somewhere Krence wont be fighting Baker now this is sorted - seems sensible to me.

Actually he isn't that overdue a shot - his fight with Krence was only a semi final eliminator. McDermott and Sprott were supposed to fight in the other semi.

Oh right my bad, I thought he had won an eliminator already. What on earth were the board doing putting together a semi and final eliminator when the british scene is so devoid of talent? Idiots.

He is though #1 contender with McDermott already having a shot and Sprott seeming to bypass the opportunity.

Really though for the live of me cannot understand why Sprott and Gammer cannot fight now - Sprott cannot be happy with his EU title fighting pies, both have been on SN bills and cannot understand why Frank didn't go to purse bids and stick it on the millenium stadium undercard.

In Harrison's latest "sorry for my performance I can do better" speach he said he was teaming up with McGirt so I don't think we'll see him back in this country. Tbh, unless he manages to completely turn his career around I don't think anyone will be too keen on paying to watch him fight in this country although the fact that he hasn't quit yet after being humiliated shows some character.

How do people think the domestic cruisers would do against the domestic heavys?

This krence match is a farce, gammer gave him a sustained beating which was bearly competitive last timer they fought and krence has lost his last 2 fights inside the distance (i know the skelton fight was late, late notice but still...) I think the borad should of put forward Sprotty, Steeds or even Audley forward first and then krence if those three turned the chance down.

1) don't rule out Carl Baker. He's got plenty going for him and could come through the mess of the division to be #1 somewhere down the line.

2) lenny - nice point about the cruisers - i think nelson could beat all of skelton, williams and sprott on the same night. there's no chance of them fighting him though ... i also think haye will scythe through that divison, and the european, when he steps up to heavy. couldn't really see maccaroni, hobson making much headway in that division tho ...

only my opinion ... what's everyone else think?
