Garcia-Porter: Who Won?

Post by Gimp Mask »

Poll threads are fun, especially for a close fight!

Who did you have winning between Garcia-Porter? I had it a draw!

Porter 115-113

About as close as it gets.

I had Garcia winning in by a rd or two. Thought he did more damage. A draw I would be happy with but hard to score and close fight so I resign to I’m ok with the decision. Now i just think if Garcia had a jab, that he actually used he could be such a better fighter. He can land precise clean left hooks, he would land a jab easy. He could rack up points instead of being stationary and waiting.

A draw.

As always I like the fighter who lands the cleaner, harder shots.

But Garcia is just too economical with his punches and it's hard not to give Porter some credit when he throws almost 300 more punches.

Garcia simply has to pick up his work rate if he wants to be a real factor at 147.

It was close, but still Porter won clearly. 115-113 or 116-112 is acceptable. Porter landed more good shots. Garcia may have been more effective, but winning isn't about that, it's about scoring more, not just having a good percentage of connected shots.

I fully expected Garcia to use the jab to keep the shorter Porter off him. Instead he tried to potshot and hold. Wrong game plan. Low work rate and too much holding lost Garcia a fight he could have handily won.

Agree. He was landing some very nice shots but infrequently (Garcia). I think it would have been hard for him to judge whether he was winning it or not. Maybe from his perspective he was landing harder and clearer and Porter was all busy work and not damaging him consistently. I think more urgency in the corner was needed. I genuinely believe Garcia thought he had it won but it was too close and a outside perspective was needed to push him.

23 total votes so far in the poll, 17 for Porter. Only 1 for Garcia. I'd say that's pretty conclusive.

Had a draw. But if I absolutely had to pick one I would say Porter.

I watch the body language of the fighter who gets whacked and assume that in most cases a power punch hurts more than a jab.

Boxing scoring shouldn't be the mystery that it seems to be for many. Who's landing the cleaner shots and who hurts the other guy more.

It's really not a mystery. The judges got it right this time. You do less, you land less. You lose. Pretty straight forward stuff in this case.

thats how i would evaluate as well, though in this case i didnt think porter looked hurt or bothered at all really, cert no more then garcia.

number of punches landed obv matters as well, would be stupid to think otherwise

dont think its a mystery at all really, but even then ppl can see the same thing so differently
