Whomever Wilder thinks he can beat is my guess.

In the wake of Hrgovic - Mansour, Hrgovic could potentially be the new frontrunner. Joyce should be in more of a rush to make something happen soon. But Hrgovic might be simply the better boxer right now, capable of progressing faster, and willing to do so.

Hrgovic vs. Joyce should be made.. Then we'll know who's ready..
Obviously that fight is not happening now or in the next 24 months...
I would like to see it though

I agree with every word on this page so far
Correction: I would just take issue with "willing to do so" comment because I'm perfectly certain Joyce is just as up for the big fights as Hrgovic possibly more so.

The 6-foot tall boxer with a 74" reach has become a dinosaur in the heavyweight division.Best Coast wrote: ↑06 Sep 2018, 23:57 Looks like long, tall fighters will be continuing their predominance in the HW division. Here's the heights of the 9 prospects listed above:
6'9" (Dychko), 6'7", 6'6" (3 guys), 6'5" (3 guys)...the only one under 6'5" is Sirenko at 6'3 1/2"

and to think jack johnson won the hw title vs a guy 5'7 and in 160s on fight day

I watched someone make Afonin look very ordinary, I think it might have been Hrgovic. It may have been an amateur fight but more likely WSB. I thought then Afonin would struggle to make much of an impression as a pro as it was real man v boy stuff.

Boxing is in a new era as far as heavyweights go. It's been 22 years since we saw a HW champion as small as Mike Tyson at 5'10". I believe Roy Jones Jr was the last world HW champ under 6 foot at 5'11" and his reign ended in 2004.pound per pound wrote: ↑09 Sep 2018, 07:45The 6-foot tall boxer with a 74" reach has become a dinosaur in the heavyweight division.Best Coast wrote: ↑06 Sep 2018, 23:57 Looks like long, tall fighters will be continuing their predominance in the HW division. Damn!!! This thread is an indication of how far I've drifted from the sport. None of those names ring a bell. There was once a time where I was very in tune with the up and coming prospects. These days I only know the big names. It's kinda depressing.

While Dubois & Sirenko cannot match the amateur credentials of the Olympians, they both have decent amateur backgrounds.Lackeos wrote: ↑09 Sep 2018, 22:11Tony Yoka - Olympic SHW gold medalist, age 26Impractical Poster wrote: ↑09 Sep 2018, 20:52 Damn!!! ya similar amateur credentials, and lol as if sirenko couldnt beat dl jones ..aj carter....and doran darch
being highest rated on boxrec at a very young age doesnt mean that much when there are hardly any others your age pro yet and that pool is so small. find any hw, turn them pro at 18, have them beat some nobodies, and chances are theyll be the highest ranked hw there age on boxrec. in reality its not that amazing
more impirtant is....how do they fare vs opponents of value? do they step in the long run when there are loads more guys around there age and do they still win? your not beating the top opponents at 30 because you beat the most scrubs when you were 20

I've gone Hrgovic.
His performance against Mansour was very Wladamir Klitschko, hanging that left hand out there to reel in the big right. He has the range, height and style to be very successful at the top.
Only other person I suspect might get there quicker is Joyce, but I also suspect he could falter against a fellow final eliminator.

Thanks amigo!! I had never heard of this guy til you mentioned him here.
So I looked him up and found out he is a Cuban defector who finished first in the 2015 Cuban National Championships with a victory over Cuban amateur star Erislandy Savon. He's been pro about a year with an 8-0 record and is based in Las Vegas.

Nice win for Ajagba!! He may not be the first of the 2016 Olympian HWs to get a world title shot but he could eventually become the best HW of this group mentioned in this thread.Boxing Writer wrote: ↑30 Sep 2018, 23:01 Efe Ajagba just KOed previously unbeaten Nick Jones (7-0, 5 KOs) in the first round
I really like what trainer Ronnie Shields says about his work ethic, comparing him to Holyfield. With a guy like Shields in the corner Efe should go a long way.

This poll 3 months ago had Joyce way ahead of Hrgovic, right before Filip stopped Amir Mansour. But it was before both Dubois and Hrgovic beat Kevin Johnson by lopsided decision, Even so I think the numbers would be similar, allowing for commenters who may not be posting here 3 months later. I'm not sure how much turnover we've had here at Current Scene in past 3 months.
