I voted undecided.

The local casino has Joshua as a -900 favorite (meaning you have to bet $900 to win your money back plus $100).

Povetkin says he's ready for both of the approaches that Joshua may take fight night.

"We have both scenarios, we don't know how it will go. We're ready for any style of fight."

http://www.skysports.com/boxing/news/12 ... ony-joshua

That may well be the case but with greatness within touching distance for Joshua, Povetkin's bravery looks entirely misplaced.

If it proves to be an easy night against Povetkin, AJ may want to consider fighting again before the end of the year. Especially if Wilder v Fury fails to materialise along with the big showdown next April.

I kind of wish they would space these mega fights out a bit better, one week it's Canelo v GGG ll and then the next Joshua v Povetkin.

Famine to feast for the fans.

Yeah. They have to book 'em so far in advance though that a lot of the time they're probably not considering all the stuff that's surrounding it. Plus considering that the fights are in different parts of the world it's definitely going to a draw a different crowd in a lot of cases. Especially to the actual arena.

"Don't count your chickens before they've hatched " - because I'm predicting it will be a mismatch all right - but the mismatch won't be the way most people here are thinking!

Yep, the good fights tend to come together in bunches, like buses to the bus stop.

Haye: Povetkin is Toughest Opponent of Joshua's Whole Career

https://www.BS.com/haye-povetk ... er--131716

Furthermore, the prime Klitschko that beat Povetkin should have been KO'd by the referee because he was hanging on like an octopus!

Prediction: Vityaz man by KO round 4!

He lost a point for his excessive holding. Anything beyond that would've been absurd. He stopped holding as much after the point deduction too. If the ref had deducted a point earlier he would've held less.

But it was too little too late. The ref didn't get around to warning Wlad until round eleven.

Fine. So the ref allowed it then. It ain't cheating if the ref don't call it.

There does seem to be a few people who if not backing Povetkin, are expecting a very tough night for AJ.

Their line of reasoning goes along the lines of 'Povetkin's a great technician', or AJ's little more than an overrated protected hype job, Povetkin's the best opponent AJ's faced other than Klitschko, AJ's running scared from Wilder, etc

What they are not looking at is Povetkin's last fight. The step up from Price to Joshua is colossal. I'm glad that Alexander Povetkin will finally get a much deserved big payday for his troubles but apart from experience, all the advantages are with Anthony Joshua. All of them.

I personally haven't ever seen this Povetkin being a great technician sh*t. I saw him throw left hooks a million times against a guy who couldn't have been more wide open to an overhand right.

If anything he's tough, he's powerful...but his technique is sh*t.

We'll find out soon enough, guys. Cheap air fair ~$72 r/t St. Petersburg, Russia to London, so hopefully there will be a lot of Russian fans banging the drums up in the bleachers and keeping the English hooligans and dishonest refs and judges in line ha ha!

Guess you've changed your mind about that now?

You could still be right about the winner. This Joshua fan isn't cocky or complacent, but I think you're going to be wrong about that too.

There are a lot of unknown factors regarding Povetkin. Joshua is entering his prime years, as these big heavy's are peaking in there early thirties (Lewis; Vlad; etc.)

I suspect that it will be a slow methodical first few rounds. If/when AJ gets hit in the head solidly and is still standing, he'll open up more and take out Povetkin mid/late rounds. Not so say that Povetkin won't make a fight out of it, but at his age it's hard to imagine he has the 'stuff' to take out AJ at this time.

I predict AJ catches Povetkin lunging in around round 8 or 9 and puts him to sleep.

Good to be back on the forum. IT's been way too long for me! Hope it's a good fight.

The last time Povetkin lost a round was almost 4 years ago against prime Carlos Takam. Its the only fight after losing to Wlad in which he lost rounds. Recently, except of Price, he have beaten C level fighters like Hammer and Rudenko in similar fashion as AJ did vs B level fighters Takam and Parker. The shot Povetkin was caught with vs Price was arguably comparable with the punch that Klitschko threw to knockdown Joshua. I think it gonna be closer than most of people think. IMO 60/40 Joshua. I preferred Povetkin to fight Wilder (imo Povetkin was a favourite in this fight and for me it's still 55/45 Povetkin) but if he fights AJ then i still want him to win (despite the fact that im AJ fan as well) because it's his last chance to become a world champ which he deserves, always liked his style and technique.

Unfortunately, it's the way I see it. Don't really class him as a world champion having held the WBA 'Regular' title..

Who knows what would have happened with Wilder vs. Povetkin.

Since 2000, Povetkin is probably the best HW not to have won a world title. A Real world title.

What are you referring to? Is it when I said I didn't think the fight would take place because the boxing bosses would find a way to block it like they did with Wilder when they trotted out Doctor Margaret and her NeVADA crew? I didn't change my mind, I was just wrong, though they still have ten days to go, possibly trot out your Doc Maggie equiv to say something like, "Omigod we found microscopic traces of a newly banned foodstuff, mayonnaise, in the Russian's blood! Now the fight can not take place and Joshua will have to fight Wilder instead. We are shocked! Shocked! "

Yes, I could be wrong too. Despite popular opinion, I am not omnipotent and infallible.

Exactly that, only because there is a week to go I refrained from calling you 'wrong'. Having said that we're not infallible nor omnipotent either (not since we got them little blue pill fings anyway :D ) but we don't have an equivalent of Goodman, and we don't go in for 'political cancellations'. Can you recall any fight being canned in the UK for reasons that might not have legit, coz I can't.

Not saying you don't get the not-so-occasional dodgy decision, mind.

Can't say that I do.

Dodgy decisions are everyplace in this dodgy sport, but some places it's almost the 100% rule rather than the exception. I wouldn't want to name names and be accused of insulting a whole city, but it's in the Mohave Desert

Here's what the booky odds are now: 1-16 if you bet on Joshua. But only 8-1 if you bet on Povetkin. What a ridiculous spread. You have to be stupid to deal with bookies.

How do you think these bookies get to afford their Mercs and Rolls Royces? I agree though. Obviously they need to have a margin but that does seem more like a gulf than a margin.

I think this is a good fight. It could easily turn out to be a mismatch, but it's a decent fight on paper. We still don't exactly how good Joshua is, and although Povetkin is smaller and older, he's very skilled, experienced, and has nothing to lose. We should learn a lot about Joshua in how he how he gets the job done. I'm a Wilder fan, but I'm not going to downplay Joshua's achievements like some. I have no problem with the Joshua-Povetkin and Wilder-Fury fights. Povetkin and Fury deserve their chance, but the winners of those fights need to fight before any Miller, Whyte, or Breazeale fights.
