give king canelo some respect!!!

Post by jamamb »

lets face it, despite all the hate hes fought excellent opposition for years, even facing floyd at like 22, twice faced the boogyman, now taken that nice 0 of his in a close but deserved win

face it, hes excellent (great chin, excellent handspeed, sharp counters and combo, and now showed versatlity with footwork) and good for boxing, with his repeated fighting of the best and ability to attract a big event

ffs bruhs, give the pasty man some credut

Is testing positive for clenbuterol 'good for boxing'? Cracking fighter and much improved from when Floyd got him but he arguably lost the last two fights and got the nod because he's a GB fighter.

Another theft by the corrupt Judges at ringside. I'm beginning to think Oscar De La Hoya is Spanish for "Don King".
Alvarez is a great Boxer and I'm a big fan of his, but he was beaten twice by a better fighter.
He is definitely going to be a huge draw for years to come. GGG had the misfortune to be a Eastern European Boxer going against a huge Mexican star who is the golden boy among Hispanic fans.

Canelo truly is an elite boxer. He is very skilled and well-rounded boxer. He has just fought two different in the sense of the strategy fights against a longtime king of the MWs. And Canelo outlanded him with power punches both times, what is an argument for him being worthy the decisions. And, yeah, Golovkin isn't the only elite level competitor Canelo fought.

Btw, Alvarez kinda reminds of his mentor De La Hoya. He became about the same level star of boxing with a similar bunch of arguable decisions.

True, but the arguable decisions went both ways in De la Hoya's career, but have only ever favored Canelo.

I thought Canelo was fantastic.

Took the centre of the ring, early on he controlled GGG with great footwork, his counterpunching went often unnoticed on the BT broadcast. He took GGG's best and kept coming forward.

I scored it one round to GGG but I was very impressed with the fight Canelo fought. No one in the division touches these two.

Agree. Golovkin won the fight! Canelo got decision! BJS beats them both!

Without commenting on the peds scandal he deserves respect for the way he fought tonight. He fought hard. It wasn’t a Andre ward type tactics fight it was in your face boxing. He has my respect and I hope he continues to face the best.

Agree. GGG clearly won the first fight, which was a robbery. I scored this one a draw and can't complain about the verdict.

Surely some hypocrisy? According to OP, GGG is 1-3 in last 4 fights. That said, I doubt this tiny board opinion is keeping Canelo up at night, and I'm not sure anyone has actually said he's not good, or perhaps even overrated.

These two fights should properly have contributed to Canelo's legacy, but the contribution should have been more like "he mostly fought really well in those two close losses to GGG."

There's no way he's not aware, at least, because it isn't just this 'tiny board.' I think a significant part of public opinion of him is that Golden Boy nepotism earns him extra points on the cards every time he fights a challenging opponent.

Too right, Canelo is a brilliant fighter. He’s proved that enough times

Exactly this.

The controversy over the scorecards, and the Mexican meat scandal, take the shine off what are two of the best performances of Canelo's career (despite the fact that GGG should be 2-0).

The meat was his own fault. He chose to eat it, despite the fact that the Reynoso's have admitted they knew of the clenbuterol issue in Mexico, but you can't blame the fighter for what the judges do.

Canelo has impressed me over these two fights - especially the rematch. Problem is, GGG just had his number in fight 1, despite not showing his best form, then upped his own game massively to take what should have been a legitimate W in the 2nd.

I think it's possible he was cycling clen between fights in order to retain muscle mass as he cut weight, but IF he was I don't think it gave him an advantage against GGG.

The smaller looking Canelo could still take Golovkin's power, and his extra speed and (marginally) improved stamina allowed him to perform better in the rematch. The problem was, GGG also fought much better second time around.

The lighter, quicker Canelo may have been able to legitimately draw with/beat an underperforming Golovkin last year. I guess that's karma, if he was cheating.

Hopefully, Canelo faces either his mandatory (Charlo), the BJS/Andrade winner, or the Jacobs/Derevyanchenko winner next, before a 3rd fight with GGG.

More likely, we'll get Canelo vs Lemieux and GGG vs Saunders (assuming he gets past Andrade, which I believe he will).

I mean no disrespect to Canelo. He is a good fighter. But he has been on the beneficial end of some strange
scorecards. I blame Golden boy and the corrupt boxing syndicate.
Canelo can not be blamed for his corrupt management. But he can be blamed for the peds.

I've given him respect since the first time I saw him on ESPN as a teenager.

Canelo has blossomed into an outstanding all-around fighter. Can do everything well. Exciting as hell. Charismatic in a droll, almost dismissive manner.

I've never understood the silly animosity toward him. It might be a GBP thing. But then I don't understand the animosity toward GBP either.

Canelo will always have my respect. I just hope he quickly flushes those worthless belts down the toilet. He doesn't need them to prove he's a king. He doesn't need to finance the lifestyles of alphabet organization honchos through hefty sanctioning fees.

Canelo is now far bigger than any championship belt.

Because it's the fighter who makes the belt. Not the other way around.

Would you say bringing talentless Matthew Hatton- career welterweight Matthew Hatton without a single world class win even at 147- up to challenge for a 154lb crown was a bitch move?

Would you say bringing Josesito Lopez- only about a year after he was fighting at 140lbs- up to challenge for a LIGHT MIDDLEWEIGHT world crown was a bitch move?

Hater!

You'll be claiming he failed two drug tests, next! Or that he seemed to invent a whole new division for himself so he didn't have to drain off that last couple of pounds when the diuretics weren't working quite as well as they used to! Or claim that he stood in the middle of the ring after fighting Cotto at middleweight & told Golovkin to come get him, then go back to light-middle+ for 30-odd months!

I know your game! You & your ridiculous appeals to consensus reality!
