both are limited sluggers

lem is a bigger puncher i think though, its that world class power that got him a title and some decent b- level wins. and will be to his advantage if spike comes in fighting a really angry fired up fire fight. lem has some big flaws but there not nearly as much of a factor if you just stand and trade with him.

spike is limited himself but prob a bit more steady and not as wild. and lem can sort of get a bit ragged later on from all the loaded up shots he throws. so i think spike should be applying measured agression with a mindset of getting it to the second half. dont be afraid to cover up in spots or hold , even if it means losing that sequence or even the round.

i think its a fight thats much more competitively matched then youd might think looking at the poll, though i can see why lems the fav (btw 'official' odds are practically pick em). im really looking forward to it, i called for it straight after the lem-bjs/spike-douglas card, should be a very good one. neither is really skilled enough to make it boring imo....whereas seemingly 'sure thing' fights to have a ko like haye-wlad featured guys who were defensively strong enough (and cautious) to drag it out

these types of fights between contenders (rather then them just being overmatched vs elite opponents) are very healthy for boxing. often when a division sucks its not just because the top guys arent fighting, but also because the next best guys dont fight each other either

I'm looking forward to it was well Jammy :TU:
It's a good fall back in case the main even turns out to be a let down. At least we get (in your words) two limited sluggers.
Both around the same level, both game to fight. It isn't going to be the sweet science by any measure.

I don't put nationality into the equation as far as boxing goes. Its not like football. For example, when Joshua fights, it's just Joshua fighting, not England fighting.

Anyone see the weigh in? Spike waved an Italian flag after it, may have been an Irish flag at one point and he washed it @ 40degrees and the colours ran :maybe:

Fair enough. Personally I'll always side with someone from my home country.... Unless they're a total helmet!

Spike is over matched here. I expect a slug fest for a few rounds, and Spike on the canvas at the end of it,

Lemieux ices O'Sullivan in the 1st, sweet left hook caught Spike clean across the face, seen it coming TBF even as early as the 1st round, Lemieux started off really sharp, you heard the snap in his punches, O'Sullivan was taking too long to get his own shots off and you could see even the partially blocked shots were having an effect, his face reddened straight away, maybe his tactics were to soak up the early pressure and wait until Lemieux's punches lost steam but he never used his legs enough

dam son, spike got iced fast. most be embarrasing for a 'tough' character like him to lose like that

if lem can hit a guy cleanly early they better have an excellent chin......

hes a pure slugger but got that power for sure.....compare how spike took his shots to eubabks. look at stevens. the guys who took him the distance but lost were better then spike at avoiding the early, fully charged shots

After tonight, I'd be surprised if Golovkin could beat Lemieux as emphatically a second time. Let's see how Canelo does against Lem and Jacobs.

He'd be retired by now anyway, but I think it's a huge shame that Pirog had to stop. I think he had the potential to be the best of his generation.

To beat Canelo at Vagas, Lemieux will need a KO.

That was a cracking KO.

Spike annoys me so it was a satisfying conclusion.

How popular is O’Sullivan?

Sergio Mora put on Twitter that his purse of $400k was double what Lemieux was getting.

i dont think hes really that popular is he? i think hed only been on a major us network once before if i recall, certanly wasnt a serious name in the us, not as big as lem at all or roman gonzalez or jamie munguia

that purse couldve been part of some broader deal he had with golden boy, like i know he said they promised him a canelo fight and maybe they gave him a bonus or something when the rematch ended up getting made instead?

ive also heard that lem likely got money from canadian tv/deals that wasnt included in the reported figure of 200k. i think that type of thing actually happnes a lot

Easy to be wise in hindsight, but was this ever going to end any other way than Spike getting brutally ko’d early? He’s lost every time he stepped up, and even got badly hurt on many occasions by Eubank Jr who isn’t anywhere near a puncher.

whats really bizare to me is how spike was being seriously talked up as an opponent for ggg and canelo

i mean, i thought he could make more of a fight of it vs lem then he did, but defo never anywhere near the level of those type of top guys.

big reality check i guess. will surely not be in any major fights now. as said, for a 'tough guy character' seems like it would be embarrasing to him to get destroyed like that.

night went about as bad as it could.
