Welcome back Conan!

Thanks for posting, here's my breakdown:

Round 1 - 3x to GGG, I concur cs: Agreed
Round 2 - 3x to Canelo, I concur cs: Agreed
Round 3 - 3x to Canelo, I concurcs cs: Scored it even
Round 4 - 3x to GGG, I concur cs: Agreed
Round 5 - 3x to Canelo, I thought GGG nicked it. No big argument, it was a close round, but all three having it to Canelo is interesting. cs : Exactly how I saw it.
Round 6 - 3x to Canelo, I concur cs: Agreed
Round 7 - Moretti scores it to GGG, the other two judges to Canelo. I gave it to Canelo, but razor close, a definite swing round. cs: Scored it even
Round 8 - Weisfeld scores it to GGG, the other two judges to Canelo, I thought GGG clearly outworked Canelo that round. Interesting. cs: Scored it even
Round 9 - Feldman scores it to GGG, the other two judges to Canelo. I thought Canelo edged it. Another swing round?
cs: I had this GGG's clearest round
Round 10 - 3x to GGG, I concur cs: Scored it even
Round 11 - 3x to GGG, I concur cs: Scored it even
Round 12 - Feldman scores it to GGG, the other two judges to Canelo. I gave it to Canelo but thought it was another swing round. cs: Canelo's round
You know Jezz it rather looks like we were watching the same fight. My scores above preceded cs: show us largely on the same page.

Some people say you should always find a reason to find a winner of a round, but I figure I would rather score a round even if it's very close, otherwise you are basically giving two points to one fighter (yes two because a creates a two point swing) on what amounts to a whim.

That's in case anyone wonders why I scored five rounds even.

I gave him 8, 9. The 10th he started well too, but got caught badly and blown that.

116-114 Golovkin

Had it level after 8 rounds (3 each, with 1 and 8 scored 10-10), then Golovkin finding another gear and taking 9, 10 and 11 clear, before a close 12th that I just edged to Canelo.

With a gun to my head though, I could have given 1 and 8 to Golovkin (that's COULD - I stand by scoring them even), and most of the media seem to disagree with me awarding the 12th to Canelo.

Giving every benefit to Golovkin, you could arrive at 117-111. Going the opposite way, I can see 114-114. The truth being somewhere in between, imo.

However, to score the fight for Canelo, you need to have him 6-2 up after 8, or rob Golovkin of at least one of his clearest rounds of the fight (9-11). That's not the fight we saw.

@jackpunk :

That's an outrageous reason. I had GGG edging the fight but I gave Canelo the 12th ... and that's coming from someone who would rather score a round even than struggle to find a winner.

It was a very close fight and the only problem I have with Canelo being awarded the decision, is the knowledge that even though GGG didn't suffer a robbery, if he had succeeded in dominating the fight, then he would have. (got robbed again)

116-112 or 115-113 for GGG.

Both guys had some stinging shots for sure.

The damage on both was visible.

But in terms of being active, staying on the pedal, and overall effectiveness I give it to GGG.

Canelo seemed to land more of the KO seeking shots, but his level of output was not enough.

It was an uphill battle for GGG either way.

DrDuke wrote: 16 Sep 2018, 03:06 Voted for draw, cause it was tight close. First of all it was a great fight, other things matter less.

Both of them did enough to win. Canelo surprisingly took the center of the ring from the start, Golovkin surprisingly wasn't frustrated by the fact, that he was forced to box. GGG still seemed to be more active and outjabbed Alvarez. Canelo was still landing the most noticeable shots.

Canelo had a better start, GGG them adapted and equaled the fight. Canelo started taking over in the second half, seemed ready to end the fight on his terms, but GGG was able to hurt him in the 10th, so the fight was equaled again. The ending was close, nobody put an exclamation mark.

I'm not against the decision for Canelo at all, cause overall he seemed to damage Golovkin more, what eventually reflected with the bruises on GGG's face.

i was watching the HBO broadcast and
it seems i got influenced much by the
audio, because i sided with them and
seemingly against 90% of the experts
here, seeing a close win for canelo.

need to rewatch in a couple of weeks.
i thought canelo won the early going
so convincingly that GGG's late come
back was not good and convincing
enough to take over.

to me canelo made GGG look limited
and past it, dominating his strategy on
him. amazingly enough 3G managed
to get back, but he never seemed to me
to make it his fight, only got canelo on the
ropes briefly, never making him afraid
of the onslaught.

what i hate though is the style of beating
great people through the calendar. this
fight happened too late as did floyd-pac.
it is on the fans and the media to demand
better than that.

GGG has a an aggressive, high energy
style that can go quickly with age and
middle weights in my book age earlier
than say heavies. so in my view canelo
won one round with each two years he
had managed to delay the fight. ugly in
my eyes, since canelo was already prime.

On the contrary, I think that boxing was Golovkin's/Abel's plan, and it worked: Golovkin outboxed Canelo landing great jabs and uppercuts and avoiding/blocking many shots by Canelo. Possibly they were trying to prove that he is not one-dimensional/donkey/etc. which he was called by the other camp. Unfortunately, perceptions about a fighter being just a plodder/puncher stick to some fans and even judges.

Pretty convincing from the media that they favored GGG
I agree I had GGG by 2 rounds. You would have to give every close round to Canelo for just a draw

After having viewed the fight again, and again, it's surprising how many of Canelo's shots were blocked slipped or just plain missed. His accuracy was not too good. It seems like the consensus is Golovkin edged a close fight, I agree.. great fight and night for boxing but once again we have the majority who believe the wrong guy got his hand raised. I respect Canelo he came to fight. But that was an L.

This is probably an extremely stupid question (ah what the hell, I've looked stupid many times before. I'm sure this won't be the last) but I assume you can't get BT PPV if you're a Sky subscriber and vice versa, right?
Ive got BT in with my Sky so im not sure really.

GGG made him miss heaps, and blocked a lot as well. He stayed just out of range or leaned back making Canelo fall short. I had GGG up by 2. Knew he would not get the win. The undercard was enjoyable :D

We all knew all Canelo had to do was a bit more than he did the first fight and he’s get the win this time. He did do more, but I still think GGG won more rounds. Just like the first fight, Canelo was just not active enough in the full 3 minutes of a round compared to GGG.

GGG landed some really good shots, he has the hardest jab in boxing. He’s a fücking machine. His chin is something else..

Canelo boxed well overall, this fight topped the first fight, mostly because they were toe-to-toe.. i was watching the fight at a lounge, which was packed and everyone there was clapping after the final bell rang.

IMO, i think this was more of a clear win for GGG than the first fight was.

To my way of thinking, and to most engaged viewers, Golovkin has now won two very close fights, and I'm sure it's disappointing for him to not have a single win to show for it. Part of me is happy because I favored Canelo to win, and I thought he had what it would take to win. And I honestly felt it was the smarter bet, as long as there was not a KO. But I can't watch that fight and actually believe Canelo won on points.

However....it is close enough (in my mind) to where I'm less concerned about ill intent from the judges, than I am simply suspicious of their competence. I don't think a one of them actually got it right. And I have to say, that's unusual, for the most part at least ONE judge usually nails it.

Ah well...….Time is now less in GGG's favor to put one on the boards, in his favor, and I think if I was him, I'd deny Canelo the chance to attempt to truly win one. I'd just let him suffer the reputation of getting two freebies. Golovkin will end up with a better rep than if he now ages out and actually turns in a losing performance against Saul.

If it happens again, I will bet on Alvarez again.
