Canelo GGG fight of the year?

Post by IKSRTFO »

This was probably one of the best fights with two top P4P fighters in a long time. I think the scoring controversy took away what was a classic fight. Both fighters gave their all and really put it on the line in this one.

Great fight, a rare fight that lives up to all the hype, but not the FOTY imo

Ramirez/Orozco so far for me, but I've yet to see Chisora/Takam. I heard that one was really good too.

Given its significant I’d say it’s up there if not the best of the year. If I recall people were a little put off by the first but now think it very decent, myself included, the second fight was better. Imo these fights will age like wine.

Saunders channeled his inner Lara and ran.

Ahh what lol? What I’m trying to say is there’s high level skill and slugging displayed in both fights which will make them nice to revisit in the long term. Chisora Takam though was amazing but not on the same skill level.

Chisora-Takam wasn’t that good. Most of it was Chisora againt the ropes eating shots.

Whyte-Parker was better.

It is FOTY for me, so far, even though I scored it for GGG.

a good one that wasnt mentioned so far is loma-linares, at least for high level fights. preferred that to ggg-canelo myself, a more drama and hurt.

Have people forgotten about these fights already?

• Alex Saucedo versus Lenny Zappavigna
• Dereck Chisora versus Carlos Takam
• Dillian Whyte versus Joseph Parker
• Jarrett Hurd versus Erislandy Lara
• Deontay Widler versus Luis Ortiz

I think Canelo GGG was better than those mentioned and half of those fights were unskilled brawlers. I think what made this one special is you had top P4P guys bringing the drama.

My understanding is FIGHT of the year means what was widely considered the best FIGHT of the year.
Not round of the year.
Not knockout of the year
Not decision of the year.

A great fight with a disputed decision is still a great fight.
A boring fight with a disputed decision is still a boring fight.

Canelo/GGG 2 has my vote for FOTY.

It's definitely gotta be up near the top. It was better than Wilder vs Ortiz.

Dogboe vs Jessie Magdaleno was really great. There hasn't been a real slam dunk obvious Fight of the Year yet this year. Doesn't seem like I've seen an OBVIOUS fight of the year in several years actually. Like one where as soon as it ends everybody KNOWS they just saw the Fight of the Year. It's been a while since we had one of those.

Got my vote ! Ranks up with the best fights I've seen and one of the closest as well. I love watching Arturo Gatti but truly appreciate the skill level and craftiness of these guys!

Easily foty for me & one of the best fights of the decade.

Imo FOTY can't simply be slugfests. It has to be full of high quality action. Golovkin vs Canelo was absolutely brilliant. The viciousness, the heart, punch selection, Golovkins jab, Canelos counters, the toughness and chins... golovkin being gassed but having the heart & sheer will power to rally late.

Unbelievable fight. It's just a shame so many folk are crying over the scorecards whuch were actually very good cards.

For what was billed as a big fight it delivered.

Undercard was gash and they had to fill in for an hour so ... as an event it came up short.
Listening to Roy Jones Jr partly saved it but the lull between the undercard and main event created a loss of interest.

BT Sport basically showed the first fight in full. Broke it down every 3-4 rounds. Was refreshing to the first fight again just before they fought again. If I had a choice I wouldn’t have watched the first fight again TBH.

Literally.. Ring walks were supposed to start at 3:30am.. but they started the ring walks just after 4am.. Credit to them, kept the intro videos short and simple, unlike the AJ ones.. and they got in the ring quick and did introductions quick too.
