Must see fights after 2000 for boxing fans.

Post by Heretic »

What are in your opinion some of the modern classics of boxing?

Fights that every fan must see?

Fights that define modern boxing?

Ill start with

Wladimir Klitchko vs Anthony Joshua.

Change of guard for HW boxing. Great match. Shows us why AJ is the best HW currently.

Fight full of action and drama.

Castillo vs Corrales 1
Gatti vs Ward 1
Barrera vs Morales 1 (barely after 2000, but technically meets the cutoff)
Tim Bradley vs Ruslan Provodnikov
Israel Vazquez vs Rafael Marquez (the whole series was good. Fights 2 and 3 being the best)
James Toney vs Vassily Jirov
Miguel Cotto vs Ricardo Torres

A few kinda forgotten barnburners are Ebo Elder vs Courtney Burton and Lamon Brewster vs Sergei Liakhovich

Those are some of the first that come to mind for me.

Katsidis' fights with Juan Manuel Marquez and Joel Casamayor were fantastic too. He came up short in those, but they were excellent fights.

Some of great fights already mentioned so i'll go with:

Vitali Lewis
Marquez Pacman fights
(these fights are classics already)
+
Glowacki Huck
Gassiev Dorticos
Lebedev Jones (despite the doping scandal)
Wlodarczyk Chakhkiev
(Cruisers are not popular but they provide a lot of entertaining fights at the highest level so i decided to mention some good CW fights)

Great that people remember the Katsidis Earl fight, i am just going to rewatch it

Particularly Pac vs JMM 4, the greatest fight of all time.

Lewis vs Vitali was definitive.

Bradley vs Provodnikov

Calzaghe vs Kessler

Martinez vs Williams 2

Pacquiao vs Cotto

Usyk vs Gassiev

Maidana vs Mayweather

Lebedev/Jones is the best CW fighter I've ever seen. Great one right there. Got me into following the CW division.

Briedis/Usyk is also one of the best high-level wars too.

Could we not put the fights people have mentioned into some sort of ranking order?

Maybe a top 20 of the 2000s onwards? :maybe:

If someone has already name checked a fight there is no need to name it again  or we will end up with a thousand posts saying the same thing :D

And those white flashes. They are almost as hard to watch as Lebedevs face after the fight

Some kind of vote for the top 10 could be good...

Might be that it would be hard to find any kind of consensus thou. The number of great fights is so high :box:

It's hard to select only 10, there are dozens if not +100 fights!

To make it possible i think we should choose 3 best fights from every year first
