Jose Ramirez vs Antonio Orozco

Post by handsofstone »

This Friday on allegedly Ramirez makes the first defence of his WBC Super Lightweight title against fellow unbeaten Orozco, looks like a good fight on paper, I remember seeing Orozco against Steve Forbes a few years ago, he's got wins over Soto and Emmanuel Taylor which is solid enough

I thought Ramirez beat Imam comfortably to win the title but he loves a tear up by the looks of things, this could gel for a good fight, think Ramirez might have a bit too much class for Orozco but not too sure about this one, cant remember seeing Orozco for while

Looking forward to this. Hadn't realised it was on BN. Pity Ramirez didn't enter the WBSS...

Yeah especially as the WBC champion. Think Taylor would've been next up for him if he hadn't entered the WBSS wouldn't he?

Surprised Postol wasn't involved as well. Maybe he'll get a voluntary shot at Ramirez/Orozco winner while the WBSS is in motion. Wouldn't begrudge him a tilt at his old belt after his performance against Taylor....

Agreed mate, Postol still a live player in the division and a good test for Ramirez and Hooker

Didn’t Postol say he might move up to WW? I think he should stick at 140 TBH..

Hiroki Okada's US debut on this card, he's being eyed as a future opponent for Ramirez... Apparently is Orozco misses weight Okada will step in for the main event. If not he face some pretty meh Argie instead

Depends how easy he does the weight I suppose. Not getting any younger and tall for the weight.

Ramirez wins a wide UD to retain his title, had him winning 118-108, he had Orozco down twice en route, it was a decent watch despite the dominance of Ramirez, there was plenty of action and exchanges with Ramirez's quality trumping most of what Orozco brought to the table, Orozco was the bigger stronger man but couldn't match the technical ability and speed of Ramirez

Ramirez had Orozco down with a sweet right hand in the 4th then again with a left to the body in the 8th, both times Orozco down well to get up and fight his way out of trouble, Ramirez's is a tidy boxer with great variety to head and body, can box but loves a tear up too which is always handy to have in the locker but could prove damaging, he maybe tailed off a bit in the second half and was tagged on a few occasions by single shots but always fought hard to stay on top

Excellent fight. A great advert for boxing. :box:

I love watching Ramirez fight, so entertaining. Full marks Orozco for hauling himself upright in the 4th round and battling through to the finish.
