Open letter to Judges: Score rounds 10/10! (frowny face)

Post by lazboy »

If you’re not sure who won the round - score it 10-10!

Further; If you objectively recognise that the round is very close that should be criteria for 10-10. You don’t have instant replay, you’re unable to review it later. If it’s close, draw the round.

What harm can this do? That someone only needs to win a couple big rounds and then coast? Their popularity would go downhill not to mention their opponent could get back into the fight. Is that not fair? Some of these hair splitting arguments such as volume vs power...if it’s that hard to judge even for those who score it after multiple rewatches, judge it even. The sports too subjective without some change these issues will continue...continue to put people off.

There are definitely cases where an even round would be easier than trying to force a winner on your scorecard because some of them are very hard to determine.

100%.

Simpler is better in my opinion. Are you able to change the title to Open letter to Judges: Score Rounds 10-10! If oscar is allowed to write an open letter to us then I can write one to judges lol.

The winner in the top fights is already decided before the first bell barring any accidents.

If a round is close or slightly in favor of the away fighter. The round goes to the home fighter anyway. Everyone knows this apart from boxrec forum members.

Yeah all you'd have to do is Edit the Original Post, and the title in the Subject line

They should get back to scoring even rounds from time to time.

When you are forced to pick a winner in a very close round, it is just human nature to want to even the scales a bit and give a close round later in the fight to the other fighter to balance things out. Before you know it, you are trying to even out your card instead of scoring each round objectively.

People and even judges can deny that they do this, but I don't buy it.

over time i agreed to scrap 10-10 rounds when scoring. so many rounds are close, it opens up a can of worms. just make a decision. clean punches, effective aggrssion, ring generalship, defence. these are the official criteria. but it just comes down to whos work do you like more, who did more damage, or scored more shots. you cant eacape subjectivity.

i tend to score one or two 10-10 rounds per 12 round fight, there are defo some cases where i think its the most fitting score., and forcing myself to give it to one boxer would mean using some narrow standard that makes the score less representative of what occured then an even score would.

this doesnt mean i score everything remotely close 10-10, its extremely rare that ive ever scored more then 2 even, i cant even think of an example of more then that

even rounds are very common in europe and i think south america and australia. the stigma seems largely a usa thing

Having 10-10 rounds would have caused a scorecard like 118-117 in the Canelo-GGG fight lol.
