Dereck Chisora makes £5m ($6.54m) offer to Dillian Whyte

Post by Enlightened-One »

"Joshua v Povetkin: Dereck Chisora makes £5m ($6.54m) offer to Dillian Whyte at weigh-in for Anthony Joshua fight"

Dillian Whyte says Dereck Chisora offered him £5m ($6.54m) to accept a heavyweight rematch and vowed to send his British rival into retirement.

The Brixton man is still holding talks with 'Del Boy' as promoter Eddie Hearn is keen to stage a return bout after Whyte emerged with a split decision win following a brutal battle in December 2016.

There was a tense exchange of words when both men crossed paths at the weigh-in for Anthony Joshua's world title fight against Alexander Povetkin on Saturday, live on Sky Sports Box Office, and Whyte revealed how Chisora promised huge financial reward for a second fight.

"With Dereck Chisora you never know," Whyte told Sky Sports News. "He said he was going to write me a cheque for £5m ($6.54m) to take the fight, so I said I'll sit and wait for the cheque to come. Please make sure it doesn't bounce. We'll see.

"I don't know where he's going to get £5m ($6.54m) from, but let's see what happens."

Whyte has been lined up a potential future challenger for Joshua, but is willing to risk his future plans to finally end his long-running feud with Chisora.

"Listen, I'm ready to go whenever," he said. "I want to put a key in that, and turn it, and throw it away forever. I believe if Dereck Chisora fights me it will be his last fight. The comeback king will be gone forever."

Thoughts?

To place some context for the offer that Dereck Chisora has made to Dillian Whyte, the proposed $6.54m figure dwarfs the $1.4m average payday that Deontay Wilder has earned for all eight of his world championship bouts.

A potential rematch between Chisora and Whyte would inevitably headline a PPV event that'll be televised by Sky Sports.

Is Chisora even worth that much?

The first fight was a cracker - incredibly exciting!

Both fighters are also really charismatic guys and can effortlessly manufacture a great deal of "controversy" and enough hype to sell the bout to British fight fans.

Dillian Whyte’s bout against Joseph Parker resulted in 400K PPV buys, which is pretty impressive considering the UK market are fairly unfamiliar with the Kiwi.

I’d expect a potential Whyte-Chisora rematch to easily surpass that figure.

I also feel that the partnership that has been established between Matchroom, DAZN and Sky Sports means that there are sufficient funds available to risk investing in a bout of this nature.

Chisora said he'd write the check. My question is his net worth capable of covering it?
I understand Dazn Hearn and sky.
Is Chisora capable of paying this as he stated?

I doubt the money will actually be paid by Chisora. Both men are Matchroom guys that have already been in the midst of negotiating this bout weeks ago.

So the face-to-face discussions that took place today were simply theatrics to help sell a future Matchroom PPV whilst the media are covering AJ's bout against Povetkin.

Eddie Hearn is very strategic and will exploit all the camera time he can in order to market future Matchroom fight cards in front of the TV cameras.

My assumption also. Nothing but theatrics

Completely theatrics.

Just because Whyte says Chisora offered him a certain sum doesn't make it true. Or make it true that that kinda sum is even available.

Who cares where the money is coming from. Probably Eddie.
There is plenty of money to be made on this fight. I for one would love to see it.

Can't see it do more ppv buys than Haye-Bellew I.. That had around 890,000 and saw Haye paid around £4.2m and Bellew around £2.8 million..

So, is Chisora putting up his own money?
