How good is Fury?

Post by Rob3_142 »

I guess the reason for this topic is because there seems to be a genuine split on the perspective of how good Fury is.

He produced the best performance of his career against Klitschko, beating the top dog in his own back yard. How much does this reflect on his levels? Was the Klitschko against Fury, the same Klitschko which turned up against Joshua? Would Fury have beat Klitschko in a rematch?

Take away Klitschko, how impressive is Fury's record? Is two wins against Chisora really worthy of a lofty status?

Now he is back after two years in the cold, does two wins against nobodies give him the license to talk? Or even justify a world championship?

Does one stylish win 3 years ago justify a No.1 status?

Not as good as he or his fans think he is. Very awkward but with average power for a man of his size. Good skills but when it comes to a dogfight he will get beat.

im still not sure where hes really at now, but prior to his layoff hed developed into a very effective but throughly boring boxer.

ya , chisora is nothing special, but look at how fury totally clowned him and stopped him in the rematch. no one had totally drubbed chisora to that extent where he was never remotely in the fight or had any compeitive moments. not vitali, whyte, pulev, helenius, or even haye despite the stoppage. chis was more 'in' the fight vs all those guys.

and okay, so chis was only 6'1, made for fury etc, but wlad 6'5 and the top man around and fury beat him too. and while im not saying wlad was at his best, i think its pretty laughable to act like fury had absolutely nothing to do with how poor wlad was. the constant movement, quicker jab, and ability to hit klit from ranged klit wasnt used to being hit from were factors

for me fury was defo a step above guys like parker, whyte, pulev, etc. the height + freakish recah + good mobility + fairly good hand speed and skill for a huge guy + willingess to stink it out made him one of the elite hws..some people really underrate him and laughably discount his best performances while acting like cunningham is the be all end all

on the more negative side he lacks a punch compared to the other top guys and question whether he can keep off big hard hitting guys like aj and wilder if there pressing him. i dont think either will be as gun shy as klit was. and i do still question his chin, he wasnt in trouble vs klit but got hardly touched.

but thats all acting like we have fury at his peak. i think now wilder will probably ko him and tbh may have always done. aj beats any fury for me.

as for his 'status' i am absolutely against him being treated like hes somehow the true champ of the division. in the last 3 years his record is absolutely shameful compared to someone like ajs. being the champ doesnt mean sitting on your ass and then coming back and beating nobodies. to be 'the man' and keep that title youve got to have done a lot more when the years pass on

just in the time since fury beat klit, aj has wracked up clearly the strongest record in the division (even if we include furys whole career and not just what hes done since)

aj; klit, povetkin, whyte, parker, breazeale, takam, molina, martin

fury: seferi and pianetta

Hard to answer as I’m not sure. He used his size and awkwardness so wlad couldn’t get a shot off. Can he do the same with wilder.... I don’t think so. Not a fraud just a huge guy that’s awkward and without concussive power.

Fury doesn't fight in any form of rhythm at all, so makes it very hard to time him and get a foothold in the fight

Yep, me too. I think that we just do not know about the Wlad fight. History is littered with decent world class guys who managed to catch a great champ at the right time but when their career is over, that was all they did and it was obvious it was a case of just catching the right guy on the right night.

Great fighters beat great fighters and have a long body of work. Fury does not have that so we do not know which side of the fence he is. To come down on either side with an opinion is pure guesswork

Fury is the lineal champion and that's for the good reason. He has dethroned a one of the longest reigning champions in the history. Fury is talented boxer, who is very slick for his enormous size and unathletic body. A smart, swift and crafty competitor. He has all the potential to become the leader of the division.

If the Wilder fight comes off it'll tell us everything we need to know .

It's a real oddity that we don't actually know how good the so called lineal champion is .

My gut feeling is his ship has sailed and he is done , the lifestyle thing and inactivity has caught up with him .

The Lineal title talk is clutching at straws, he didn't fight for more than 30 months after beating Klitschko, how long do you remain a lineal champion? The games changed since November 2015.

He was inactive for 2 an half years of that 3 years though to be fair. Random comparison

ya and to me its a big blow to someones status as 'the man' when there out for 2.5 years getting obese while other hws are doing big things and building superior records, not random at all :TU:

time moves, things change, winning 1 fight doesnt freeze you as the 'real' champ or anything like that. thats what i hate about people obsessing over 'lineal'. they want everything to come down to just one fight at a fixed point in time even though the state of a division and how the fighters and there accomplishments compare are very much in flux

The one thing about the Klitschko fight is that fury never allowed wlad to set himself and launch his assaults. That is what wlad had been doing for 10years, risk free boxing, everything being textbook.

Fury's movement didn't allow him to do that.
Wilder however will probably end up just running out the corner, totally offset and launch an assault from somewhere around the first row, which in itself could negate Fury's movement.

Fury will outbox wilder no doubt, but wilder will throw it all to the wind at some point as will AJ.

For me, fury had an ok resume pre lay off, since his layoff it's been embarrassing. I'm certain the fight doesn't happen. I got the date announcement sort of right. Think they both went 18hrs early announcing yesterday morning. But I said they would try to steal the thunder.

One thing I'd hope Tyson does, is quit putting out these videos. It makes him look desperate, sound tacky when AJ has just made his 6th defence of a world title, KOd a man never stopped in his pro or amateur career in front of 80k and Tyson is calling him a bum.

Povetkin is about 100000levels above Fury's comeback opponents.

The lineal champion thing is a bit weird really.

Technically the lineal championship ended with James J Jeffries when he retired.

Those who refuse to recognise that, well, what happens if Lennox Lewis makes a comeback tomorrow? Does he become lineal champ? :TU:

Fury is a top fighter and a big threat to the two guv’nors. It doesn’t mean he‘ll beat them though. I can’t wait for this Wilder fight, it’s winnable for either guy.

Schooled? Bwaaaahahaha!
Both men put in dreadful performances, Fury didn’t win he just lost less.
Given that Wlad was back and forth between LA and Austria twice a week whilst his wife was suffering post partum depression all we really know is that Wlad had no respect for Fury and believed he could still beat him without training properly. Had he started round one the way he did round 12 I doubt it would have got to the half way stage.

Fury didn't school Wlad at all,he landed a few more punches in arguably the most boring title fight in history.

Why do you keep trying to rewrite history? Fury did not school Wlad ffs. It was a good enough win on its own merits, no need for people to keep trying to pretend it was some boxing masterclass.

Not at all mate, in this instance I mean the right time to be circumstances we do not know - uninterested, unmotivated, other shite going on (eg wife ill with post natal depression), psyched out totally for some reason, complacent. Not saying he was, just that there may be reasons he got him on the right night and I was not meaning "past it" or "old" so the two years later comment is moot.
