Devin Haney vs Burgos

Post by diddy »

Good fight this. Burgos a clear step up but Haney is elite and should box his face off. This card is on Showtime and on Devin Haney Promotions. Good luck to Burgos. Obviously needs a KO.

Should be Haney's toughest test so far but Devin should win easily. The main question is KO or decision win. If Haney does stop Burgos he will be the first to do that. Burgos has gone 12 rounds with Mikey Garcia and long-time world bantam champ Hasegawa.

Interesting article on Haney's promotional outfit...

https://fightnews.com/devin-haney-19-ye ... obox/30682
In addition to taking the next step up in competition when he faces former title challenger Juan Carlos Burgos (33-2-2, 21 KOs) this Friday at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, California, on ShoBox: The New Generation, the undefeated Haney (19-0, 13 KOs) is promoting the show, having recently obtained his promoter’s license from the California State Athletic Commission.

“I’ve been saying for a while now that I always felt like I was my own promoter,” explained Haney. “And I feel like a lot of other fighters are their [own] promoter as well because they do all the marketing, they do their social media, and they’re getting their name out there. I’m just one of the fighters that took the initiative to actually go get my promoters license and go all the way with this.”

The precocious Haney is not content with just producing an event to showcase his own talent, but he also envisions the newly minted Devin Haney Promotions as maintaining an entire roster of young fighters, and he is not wasting anytime starting this phase of his company.

“I’m working with one fighter right now, Darren Cunningham,” announced Haney. “He’ll actually be on the card [this Friday] as well, he’s 6-0. I want to keep a stable of many more fighters.”

whats been happening with burgos anyway? he fought mikey almost 5 years ago, has only fought 3 times since (all scrubs), and hasnt fought in over a year

this should be easy work haney, burgos is s career featherweight and super featherweight and was even back at 126 a few fights ago. hes being dragged up to fight a big lw whose been near 140. he hasnt been relevant in years + is facing inactivity. the hasegawa fight was at 126 and almost a decade ago btw, and mik3y was almost 5 years back

burgos looks good at a glance but i think hell be as easy work as menard was, maybe even gets stopped faster with the greater natural size difference, inactivity, and total lack of meaningful fights in nearly 5 years

A name to con the casuals into thinking that Haney is taking a huge step up in class.

So when Haney dismisses the semi-retired Burgos in a few rounds, it will seem very impressive.

Haney is a god damn stud. He will go far. He certainly won’t lose this fight.

1000% a better fighter than Ryan Garcia. Not even remotely close.

Time will tell. Both Haney & Garcia are beneficiaries of skillful matchmaking. For example, both guys are now facing guys with good records who are past their peak. They split their head-to-head matchups in the amateur ranks, so I dont think there is much of a talent gap between the two, at least not yet. Both are future stars who could meet up down the road after either or both have won world title belts.

Garcia gets a lot more hype because he is Oscar's favorite GBP prospect. I give Haney respect because it is unusual for a guy that young to be promoting himself. Haney also seems less cocky and arrogant than Ryan, so I pull for him a little more.

Haney wouldn’t lose a round against the guy who just fought Garcia tooth and nail. Haney actually uses the jab.

Styles make the fights. Carlos Morales surprised a LOT of people, especially GBP matchmakers. GBP had no idea Morales would be so tough. Haney may well handle Morales better than Garcia did, but I could see Morales winning a few vs Haney, although I dont think he would give Haney as trouble as he did Ryan.

Zhora Hamazaryan is rematching Thomas Mattice on this card in rematch of that heinous decision where Mattice managed to win 1 or 2 of 8 rounds, and get knocked down, and win.
