Heavyweight world titleholder Deontay Wilder and former world champion Tyson Fury finalized their deal Friday night, and Premier Boxing Champions announced the fight would take place Dec. 1.

It was a highly unusual announcement with a news release touting that "the contracts are signed and the fight is on," and that the fight would be televised on pay-per-view. However, it did not specify that it would be Showtime PPV, the broadcaster that will carry the fight, and there was also no announcement of a site.

Multiple sources have told ESPN the site has not been finalized and that the fight will take place either at the Staples Center in Los Angeles or at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Also unusual about the announcement -- in addition to its coming on a Friday night -- was that it came on the eve of unified heavyweight world titleholder Anthony Joshua's title defense against Alexander Povetkin, which will take place Saturday at Wembley Stadium in London. Joshua and Fury are both from England, but Saturday's major fight figures to completely overshadow the announcement of Wilder-Fury.

The news release said that Wilder and Fury would embark on a three-city media tour to promote the event. It will kick off in London on Oct. 1, followed by stops in New York and Los Angeles on dates that were not specified.

"More details on the location, venue and the on-sale ticket information for the heavyweight championship battle will be released next week," according to the release.

showtime released 'its on!' already a month ago, we were just waiting on venue etc. now we here 'its on!' again, yet still no venue/location? and whats with warren getting things wrong? first he said the night of fury vs pisneta over a month ago that the fight would be announced the next week, then he apparently gets the media tour dates wrong , saying it would start this monday

just cant recall another fight where its been treated as 'on' with so few details out there

It is rare but it does happen occasionally...the WBSS Super Middle Final this coming weekend got finalized 2 months and 1 day ahead of time. December 1 is still 2 months and 8 days from now.

The final of the World Boxing Super Series super middleweight tournament between George Groves and Callum Smith will take place on Sept. 28 at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The bout between Groves and Smith was supposed to take place on June 2 in London but was delayed due to the former's shoulder injury suffered in his semifinal.

Where there's a will there is a way...especially with big $$$$$ involved. Even if it means finding an undeserving challenger like Martirosyan for GGG's Cinco de Mayo defense, only 3 WEEKS ahead of time.

Still no venue announced yet but the press tour begins October 1 in London, followed by 10/2 in NYC and 10/3 in LA. The London presser is media only but the 2 U.S. ones are open to the public.

Could be significant that neither London or LA has a venue mentioned for the press conference either. If the London presser next Monday doesnt reveal some more details this could turn out to be a bluff. Some folks think the only reason the fight was announced last Friday night was to steal some thunder from Joshua-Povetkin the very next day. We should know soon if it turns out Warren/PBC were bluffing.

i was sceptical, but think theyve gone too far now with all these tour dates and official network announcements for it to be a bluff, it would make both sides look hilariously laughable to go through all this stuff only for it to have merely been some pr to get some attention away from aj

but it sure has been bizarre, all the announcements and 'its on', yet still very vague on details, almost like theyve rushed things and had to get ahead of themselves a bit to fit in the fight this year

The HWs havent been quite as successful as locals like Oscar or Mosley. Vitali Klitschko fought there 3 times, with live attendance figures of 13-17,000+

Wilder-Fury could probably do 13-14,000...maybe 16,000 if the undercard has some top-notch Mexicans with some name recognition. Deontay has only fought in SoCal a few times, mostly against no-names before he won the WBC title and he could build a decent SoCal fan base if he wins impressively against Fury.

Are you talking about only 100,000 PPV buys for Wilder-Fury on Showtime? If Canelo-GGG can get 1.1 million I figure Wilder-Fury should get at least 250,000-300,000. Even GGG against scrubs sometimes sold that many.

Although Jacobs and Lemieux are not scrubs, their PPV numbers for GGG were scrubbish: 153,000-170,000.

On Friday, Loeffler confirmed to Yahoo’s Kevin Iole that the fight drew in 170,000 buys, which is higher than the 153,000 buys for Golovkin’s PPV debut against David Lemieux back in October 2015.
