fighters betting on themselfs losing
fighters betting on themselfs losing
so theres speculation about mcdonagh having retired like that due to him betting on that outcome.and in real time on the rbr thread ppl were saying how bizarre the knockdown was. i dunno if he did bet or what, but...
thinking about it, it would seem to me if a fighter decides to lose (and odds are offered on there fight) , they can make some very good money by betting on the specifics of how/when that will happen. they could even make several times there purse. and they have a good deal of control of when they lose...they basically just have to be able to last until that point
how do they catch this type of thing? any other strongly rumored or verified examples of it? just seems like such a good way to make money, possibly big money

Depends what you call big money? For many ordinary fighters 10k would be a fortune.
Something iffy with the Irishman for sure

Re: fighters betting on themselfs losing
Fair point, you wouldn’t know if a journeyman did it and was discreet about it. I‘m sure there’s a lot worse fraud goes on
Re: fighters betting on themselfs losing
Irregular betting patterns. Impossible to make any decent money without getting caught.
Especially true if a journeyman. A guy who loses every week (usually by going the distance) and then suddenly there is a stack of money on a specific round in small hall show where there is normally hee haw in the way of betting. Bookies have more intel and analysis than the CIA.

Anyone who gets collared betting against themselves should have their licence revoked immediately.
Re: fighters betting on themselfs losing
i wonder how much of a bet it takes to trigger irregularity
Re: fighters betting on themselfs losing
Sure nick Cook brother got done with this a few years ago with Nicky fight with Ricky burns
Re: fighters betting on themselfs losing
Not very much. In most cases you wouldn’t even be able to get a decent sum on. In fact other than the higher profile fights there probably wont even be a market for correct round betting. Certainly not for non tv shows featuring local fighters v a journeyman. Try sticking £100 on and you would be looked at or told to eff off.

Wasn’t there something iffy about Gomez bs McDonagh in Dublin?
Re: fighters betting on themselfs losing
He seemed a massive weirdo after the fight, proper try hard.
