The Manassa Mauler (at age 45 y)
Dempsey had said that he had trained "mainly on cigars" for this fight.

What did they tell Jerry Quarry that the movie was suppose to be about ?HomicideHenry wrote: ↑17 Jan 2018, 17:54 THE WORST... in my opinion... Was 1992 when poor Jerry Quarry was told that it was just for a movie... He climbs into the ring and fights some bum and gets whacked around.
Check out the individual with the huge camera just feet away from him on the ring apron.
What was Ron Cranmer's version as to what happened, was he hired as an "actor" in it.
Sounds like it all could have been a 'big set-up" for Quarry.

I don't know all the particulars but in one of the short documentaries about Jerry Quarry online Bert Sugar talks about how Corey was hoodwinked into doing this fight under the pretense it was a movie.Caractacus wrote: ↑15 Mar 2023, 15:44What did they tell Jerry Quarry that the movie was suppose to be about ?HomicideHenry wrote: ↑17 Jan 2018, 17:54 THE WORST... in my opinion... Correct. Henry way off as usual.Tony1244 wrote: ↑19 Jan 2018, 16:11I think this is a little off. They told Quarry if his comeback was successful, they may make a movie out of his life. That doesn't mean Quarry thought the fight was a movie.HomicideHenry wrote: ↑18 Jan 2018, 21:04It was his last registered pro fight. This was before the ALI ACT and you could pretty much put a show on anywhere, with anyone at any time. He was suckered into believing it was all for a movie and then the guy unloaded on Quarry. Bert Sugar talks about it in a documentary on YouTube about Quarry.

@ 8:00....
Bert Sugar says:
"Somehow, someway, somewhere he was bamboozled by friends who told him what he was doing was training to get into a movie."

Re: Don't Call it a Come-back
who was the camera man at ringside, what was his story as what transpired ?
Re: Don't Call it a Come-back
Caractacus: Did you ever see the footage of Bob Hazleton knocking out Bob Foster ? It on youtube. Maybe you could put it on a thread-it was reputed to be a dive by the famed writer Mike Marley and it sure looks like one to me.
Re: Don't Call it a Come-back
Robert Hazelton ABC story is what it's under if you are interested.

Re: Don't Call it a Come-back
The 90's era was a very grim marker
It was certainly exciting watching Holmes comeback to challenge the young Mike Tyson for the linear title.....but that moment also paved the way for Holmes and rest of the tainted WBA generation of champions to embark on their 'masters' careers.
I've always hated this moment
I say balls to calls for restraint of trade legislation etc. There should be a limit to boxing age ranges.
I really don't want to see anyone over 40 boxing.
There, I've said it

Re: Don't Call it a Come-back
Can you believe that was the same person who fought Bob Foster just ten months apart ?
Did Foster even recognize his opponent was the second time ?
Can just imagine Bob Foster saying
" who is that big Mo-Fo there in the corner ?
thought I was going to fight that skinny assed anemic Bob Hazelton again >
BTW when I was first watching that video at 1:45, I thought
"Whats Scott LeDoux doing in this ?
then I noticed the re-ceding hair-line, and didnt remember LeDoux as ever having one.
BTW after Bob Foster turned 38 he fought twice more and was knocked out both times
( the last one by Bob Hazelton)
