Here it is, Ortiz vs. Wilder, ROUND EIGHT!

Post by Ilya Muromets »

Thanks to the poster Pukka Cheese here it is! They don't want you to remember it, they lie about it, they scrubbed it from the internet! Listen to the announcers' live comments before they were ordered to go with the program...

Why? There is so much in your face corruption in boxing and people say, O dear that's terrible!...and then it's immediately swept under the rug and forgotten. Time after time over and over. I don't think that's right. I think this fight should have at the very least been declared no contest and an immediate rematch ordered and an investigation made into the behavior of the ref and doctor, why they did what they did, and who told them to do it.

It’s always been the case. Complaining on a boxing forum isn’t going to change that. All we can do here is debate. But this has been discussed.. what happened here has happened before, and WILL happen again.

I agree, in another fight, the ref would have stopped it this round, and i’ve seen it happen (see Froch-Groves I).. I think refs give the champion more time. Because it’s their title(s) to lose. So unless Ortiz was going to drop him in round 8, there was never going to be a stoppage here..

Also, I believe many people scored it a 10-8 round for Ortiz regardless. Not sure about the judges.

I this thread really about round seven rather than eight, because the embedded video shows round seven? All three judges scored the round 10-8 to Ortiz, the ref wasn't obliged to stop the contest and this fight is also ancient history.

So this is a pointless discussion!

Ah. Thanks. It was round 7 which was 10-8 not round 8.. but yeah pointless. Just because a referee didn’t stop the fight when you would like him to doesn’t mean it should have been. I’m glad the fight went on. Wilder was never dropped.

Ortiz was dropped a few times.

I'm somebody who's watching it for the first time now, because of this thread. Yeah, that was a gifted bit of recovery time. I tend to doubt there's been a massive coverup about it though. Showtime seems to do a lot more than HBO to limit the online availability of fight footage generally. Which is also why I hadn't seen this clip before, and why it's not hard to imagine the video disappearing from this thread.

As far as i know this is the only place online that you can see round 8. They have deliberately scoured it off the internet.
Split seconds are critical in a situation like that. Between the time the round 8 bell sounded and the two actually engaged at least 20 seconds passed while the ref and ring doctor did their shenanigans. I am really baffled why the boxing fans here are so willing to accept this.

Wlad had been dropped twice that round. 10–7 round already, based on the scorecards at the time, The knockdowns would have given AJ a comfy win at the scorecards, but I still think, let a guy finish 12 rounds. Wlad wasn’t hurt.

Let's ignore the fact that Ortiz says he punched himself out and the extra time allowed him to last longer in the fight.

I agree. I have seen much worse stoppages though, this was acceptable but if i was the referee i would let it go. Had Wlad survived this round, i would have it 103-102 AJ after 11.

Pauli Malinaggi on the "very shady" eighth round...

Good comment under the vid...

jono yolim

yeah, but, did you see how hard Wilder smashed Ortiz's back head twice b4 threw him to the rope and down to the canvas at 10th rd? Ref not care about Ortiz's safety and asked him to stand up and continue the fight without warning to Wilder. Then Wilder start to windmill like crazy with those illegal punches, again, two big swings top down to the back of Ortiz's head, slap with inner glove 2X to the back side, then smashed him down with forearm to the back of the head too. He should disqualified by then. What say you??

Yep. They suddenly got so worried about the rubber legged house fighter's safety that they interrupted the round to pretend to examine him, but when the other guy got hurt where was the referee and doctor then? Why didn't they stop the 10th round to examine Ortiz?

They didn't interrupt the round, but yeah no matter what, it was shady as shit and wilder hanging on for dear life, couldn't believe his luck, accidently actually catching ortiz, then loosing his shit COMPLETELY, expiriencing a hysterical seizure, banging maniacally away on ortiz, with clearly illegal punches is... at least funny. Ortiz is still pissed that he allowed himself to get carried away aiming for the fences, instead of measuring up the spastic jumping jack & putting him away with more purposefully targeted punches.

Damn they found out the secret. Not only is Deontay Wilder the most powerful boxer on the planet. But he controls the internet and has the power to completely wipe out the internet :brick:
The most influential men on the planet come to him for advise. He controls the sport. He controls drug testing.
He's responsible for the closure of Russia's drug testing agency and 1000 amateur Russian athletes failing tests.
He is such a powerful person in all world affairs.

Some of you are not right in the fuggin' head

Yes they did interrupt round 8. The bell had already rung to start the round. Watch the vid again. That's what this controversy is about. Had they just extended the between round rest time for Wilder under the pretense of having the doctor examine him sure that would have been shady as hell but it wouldn't be the first time they've done that. To my knowledge this is the first time they've done this. With this precedent what stops them from interrupting any fight when the favored fighter is in trouble under the pretense of having the doctor examine him to make sure he's okay?

As for Ortiz not complaining, or the nonsense about him saying stopping the round was good for him, yes he and his corner did complain, and at other times he just sounded fatalistic. He knows what runs boxing. He's been around the block.

A lot of these boxing fans are just irrational. No wonder they so easily get away with the"poo" they do.

Wilder was hurt.....he survived....he got an extra ten seconds at the start of the next round....which is very common now. There is literally nothing to see in that video.

I think you might need some counseling.

This is the state regulation of NY.

§210.23 Intermission between rounds. There shall be a 60 second intermission between rounds, unless otherwise directed or authorized by the commission. The referee, at the request of the ringside physician, may extend this intermission, if necessary to examine a participant, for up to 30 additional seconds.
