Re: Teddy Atlas Podcast - Well worth a listen!
I think he is very harsh on Tyson, critising his mental strength and dismissing his 50 victories. He would have faced a lot of pressure in tryng to become the youngest person ever to win the heavyweight title, the whole world then watching your every move and ironing out your biggest rival in the 80's (inside a round).
I didn't get his analogy of a 12 year old tyson hiding behind a hall, equating to him being a coward for life. To me, if you are 12, with no parents or siblings to look after you and you are being attacked on the streets of brooklyn, then the smart move is to high behind a wall. It's called survival, and Tyson is a survivor.

atlas cant help but sh1t on tyson whenever he can, not that all his says is wrong, but clearly he feels not very well toward him even so many years later
btw, i read his autobiography and he seems like a real nut. he says he had gotten a gun and was going to murder donny lalonde, but then lalonde wasnt home when he went over and so it didnt happen

Teddy has something of a point in the sense he looked for a way out when tbe going got tough. But to discount ALL of his wins is ridiculous. Tyson is a deeply disturbed chap and like you say much of that is down to such a bad upbringing.

Re: Teddy Atlas Podcast - Well worth a listen!
My uncle sent me the link yesterday and ive listened to about half of it, haven't got around to Tyson yet, I don't mind Teddy, he can be a bit of a loose cannon and gets bent out of shape if a judge disagrees with him by even the smallest of margins, he came across well on this podcast as he wasn't bawling and screaming from the rooftops, I imagine like a lot of Americans his style of coaching is right out of a movie script and he loves his analogies , me personally I prefer more tactical instructions in the corner but horses for courses and all that, I'm sure theres plenty of folk who love all that "fireman" talk
Re: Teddy Atlas Podcast - Well worth a listen!
it was good , he bad falling out with tyson it says on his wiki,
Re: Teddy Atlas Podcast - Well worth a listen!
Good podcast, though I thought he was harsh on Tyson too. Still comes across as personal after all these years.RKY wrote: ↑28 Sep 2018, 10:54I agree.big lennox wrote: ↑28 Sep 2018, 10:01 I think he is very harsh on Tyson, critising his mental strength and dismissing his 50 victories. He took a hell of a beating of Lennox Lewis and never tried to find a way out.

The most interesting part is where Teddy talks about his upbringing and how much of a role model his father was. He gets quite emotionsl during it. I like Atlas, a man of real character imo and his love of boxing comes from the same place as my own, how it's a metaphor for life and just a showcase of something much deeper.handsofstone wrote: ↑28 Sep 2018, 12:31 My uncle sent me the link yesterday and ive listened to about half of it, haven't got around to Tyson yet, I don't mind Teddy, he can be a bit of a loose cannon and gets bent out of shape if a judge disagrees with him by even the smallest of margins, he came across well on this podcast as he wasn't bawling and screaming from the rooftops, I imagine like a lot of Americans his style of coaching is right out of a movie script and he loves his analogies , me personally I prefer more tactical instructions in the corner but horses for courses and all that, I'm sure theres plenty of folk who love all that "fireman" talk

Enjoyable podcast.
Not as enjoyable as Teddy’s bizarre “We are Firemen” corner speech tho.

Teddy doesn't seem the type who can forget a falling out very easily.

Re: Teddy Atlas Podcast - Well worth a listen!
I like Teddy speaks his mind on things but the way he uses every opportunity to slag off Tyson is just tedious
Re: Teddy Atlas Podcast - Well worth a listen!
Brilliant that,i feel he has still got sometin against tyson but still he says he is brilliant,he can punch,he was fast he was intimidating he was great but when someone came to fight he wasnt up for the fight, its just his opinion and,in a way,iv always said this to people, tyson was brilliant in the mid to late 80's but he never beat a great as in someone in their prime who is considered a future great,he was still brilliant tho

I thought Tyson showed a lot of heart in the Douglas fight where he came back and dropped Douglas and went out on his shield. Same with Holyfield 1, he really tried but was just past his prime.

Re: Teddy Atlas Podcast - Well worth a listen!
Yeah I thought that - Tyson definitely took his lumps against Douglas, Holyfield 1 & Lewis and didn’t complain once. He only really looked for a way out against Williams & McBride where he was shot to bits. I guess some people might say he took the easy way out against Holyfield in the rematch, but I certainly didn’t feel that way, he just lost his rag.TheLeprechaun wrote: ↑01 Oct 2018, 13:10 I thought Tyson showed a lot of heart in the Douglas fight where he came back and dropped Douglas and went out on his shield. Re: Teddy Atlas Podcast - Well worth a listen!
I did enjoy the segment about Tyson and Holyfield. Looking back now you can see it clear as day in their two fights; one guy turned up for war, the other turned up for an early KO.

I posted this in current scene, but a lot of the novices didn't appreciate it. Great podcast. Rogan is the best.
Re: Teddy Atlas Podcast - Well worth a listen!
Rogan is quality
Re: Teddy Atlas Podcast - Well worth a listen!
I do like Teddy and enjoyed his book, but he needs to let the whole Tyson thing go, if only for his own sanity
Re: Teddy Atlas Podcast - Well worth a listen!
Not sure Rogan could get a word in with Atlas there, quality listen though.
