McDonnell gets a second crack at a world title against WBA Super Bantamweight champ Roman on the Vargas/Dulorme card this weekend, he's in good form is McDonnell, made fairly easy work of Gamal and Hall and for the first time is maybe better than Jamie, he lost widely to Rey Vargas but always made it competitive, he just lost to a good unbeaten champ
Never seen Roman but apart from a win over Moises Flores in his last fight there's not much there, McDonnell mixed in better company, neither guys are punchers so I'm assuming this goes the distance, Roman better have a good engine coz Gavin fights at a fair old pace, I'll go with Mcdonnell on a close but deserved decsion

Re: Daniel Roman vs Gavin McDonnell
i actually think romans record seems better. and hes a very solid boxing steady guy himself. lots of experience going rounds, unlike yafai had. yafai was a bit green imo and it showed.
id lean to roman winning a comptetive one...good fight

Re: Daniel Roman vs Gavin McDonnell
Roman impressed in his two fights in Japan, genuinely think he'll do a number on McDonnell...
Re: Daniel Roman vs Gavin McDonnell
to me gavs fights vs vargas and roman show him to be pretty clearly a good euro level fighter. good enough to have some moments with these top 10 guys but never really look like hes going to win. and then vs guys below that level he wins, like vs yafai, hall, and in his euro title fights.
roman is a very solid world class fighter at this weight. does nothing super impressively but solid all-rounder with a good engine. his boxing looks more refined and steady to me then rey vargases. a true 12 round fighter.

He showed such poise and composure throughout. He gave the impression he always had another couple of gears. And then he used them.
What an effort from Callum Johnson.

roman was impressive, but hes more of a guy whose impressive to me as a total package rather then for any particular ability.
Re: Daniel Roman vs Gavin McDonnell
First time watching Roman, decent little fighter with an excellent engine, you can tell he is really well conditioned. Excellent finish from him.
Gav gave a decent account of himself he's just not top level, I think he may as well retire. Nothing against him him and his brother are good guys I just think Gav has found his level.
The weight doesn't have much depth to it. I want to see Roman unify but a fight between him and Diego De La Hoya would be a decent watch.
Isaac Dogboe is the king of this weight class though.

Re: Daniel Roman vs Gavin McDonnell
Cracking finishing from Roman, that was impressive, came out of nowhere really just as McDonnell was having a decent spell, once he caught McDonnell with that right hand in the 10th, McDonnell seemed to unravel, great accuracy from Roman to put McDonnell down and stop him
I had McDonnell edging the 1st but after that Roman seemed to outwork him, quicker off the mark, getting off some lovely shots while McDonnell took too long to get his punches off, there wasn't many big power punches from either man but Roman was getting off the simple shots, McDonnell started to finally have a little success in the rounds before the stoppage and could've scraped a draw on my card if he kept it up but credit to Roman he pulled the KO out of nowhere really, thought the ref was a bit quick to wave it off at first but he mustve seen something in McDonnell's eyes and there were no complaints
