“After much thought and consideration I accept your challenge. If you won’t come down to USA then I’ll step off the Wilder-Fury card and fly over to the UK and fight you in your own backyard,” Ortiz told BS.com in an interview translated from Spanish.

“Done deal. Enough talking that rubbish you speak. Send over the contract and I’m there. Now you’ve got yourself a real problem son. So now what are you gonna do?”

Ortiz’s manager Jay Jimenez prefers that his fighter fights in the United States but ultimately gave his client the go ahead and will back him since he is so adamant about facing Whyte next.

“I don’t want the fight. I told Luis no because we already offered him the fight here for the December 1st card and Whyte refused and when the WBC gave him a mandatory against us he also refused so why go on his terms and fly to the UK? That makes no sense. There is only so much I could do. As a manager my job is to give the best advice and be there for my team but he’s a grown man and the truth is the fighter is the boss so at the end they always have the last word. So I guess we will be in UK soon,” explained Jimenez.

And if a fight against Whyte doesn’t pan out Jimenez said, “if not Whyte I would like Luis to face Kubrat Pulev or Alexander Povetkin next.”

I guess, Whyte, whose contender chances are rising, won't fight Ortiz, who's out of the title track. Ortiz can easily fight Povetkin, I believe. Their career status is about the same.

They’re mental if they try to flog Whyte - Ortiz as a PPV, it will bomb totally.

Whyte is basically the 2nd coming of Chisora...he is not world class and is European at best...good luck to him for cashing in but I still dont rate him...he is living off wobbling Joshua and thats it as far as I'm concerned. If Povetkin really had the desire he would have beaten Whyte.....

Still don't rate Whyte Meself. Ortiz will muller him, if the loss to Wilder ain't taken to much out of him he's a few levels above Whyte

Whyte has some good wins to his name, but his name has all been built of briefly wobbling AJ.

Any of the taller top end boxers will jab his head off like AJ did after being wobbled.

Not sure if still under the Matchroom umbrella - but Ortiz was promoted by them in 2016 so the fight can be made - but surely the better strategy for Whyte is to challenge for a title rather than roll the dice against Ortiz. I reckon Whyte would take the fight if offered though.

I dunno guys, given the tumbleweeds blowing through the HW division right now- with only Wilder and Fury fighting- a matchup between two top #10 fellas ain't all that bad is it?
Don't get me wrong- I wouldn't pay to see it, but I would still watch it.

It's a decent fight. I wouldn't write Whyte off personally. I don't think there's a lot between them. He'll be the busier of the two. Will be interesting to see how he handles it when Ortiz inevitably lands a few.

Good matchup. We saw against Parker that the new and improved Whyte can deal with speed (with a little help from his head) - Ortiz will show us how he deals with skills.

Will not happen , Hearn is'nt going to risk it , Good chance Whyte gets beat , then the Joshua fight is out the window , who would Joshua fight in April , it would have to be Ortiz , Miller would be saved for the USA , and Ortiz has a much better shot at AJ than Whyte , he's technicly a far better boxer , slips punches well and is tough , Ortiz equals too much risk for AJ , he's old but still dangerous for 6-8 rnds, Whyte just is'nt dangerous to AJ , he's an easy night at the office , why doe you think he's being pushed so hard for the fight

I can't see Hearn risking his #2 heavyweight to a guy without promotional ties.
It makes no sense.
I don't think it happens either

They don't want the Wilder/Fury winner for Joshua. So the best option is Whyte as he'll beat him easy.

If Whyte is to have a fight before Joshua. Then he needs to stay away from Ortiz. I think even Chisora beats him. Looking at boxrecs top 15. The easiest fight for Whyte would be Christian Hammer.

I don't see this fight happening.

Whyte is already in a position to get the second fight with AJ. That one would bring in the mother load of cash for him.

Ortiz is risky fight for pennies compared to the AJ fight.

Also I think that Ortiz is on the Fury vs Wilder card so he can step in if Fury is not fighting. I guess Ortiz is ready to do anything to get rematch against Wilder.

My guess is that Whyte will take an easy fight next. Someone who has decent ranking but is no threat. Hammer, Dimitrenko, Duhaupas, Jennings and Martin would be the kind of opponents that I would expect him to fight next.

In fairness Whyte is fighting all the fringe contenders without getting a shot.

Yeah, whether you rate him or not, you could argue that in Helenius, Browne and Parker, he's done as much as Ortiz did to earn a WT shot.
