Amir Khan, Kell Brook; Agree to a Weight Clause
Amir Khan says "nothing can stop" his fight with Kell Brook as they have agreed a weight 'clause' for the long-awaited British battle in 2019.
Promoter Eddie Hearn has been mediating between both teams, with Brook willing to take the fight at 147lbs, and Khan suggests his rival will not pack on more than 10 pounds on the day of the bout.
"Obviously me and Brook are with Eddie Hearn," said Khan. "I've left that to Eddie to do all the negotiations, to speak to both parties, to speak to his trainer, his manager, himself.
"But look, it's a fight I would love to have, and I think it would make a lot of money financially for both fighters, but at the same time it would be a massive fight in the UK. It's a fight that the fans want. Why not make it happen?
"Nothing can stop it. He's agreed to be 147, and also have a rehydration clause of 10 pounds. I'm happy with that.
"If he's happy to take that, so am I. That fight can happen then 147 it is, and we're with the same promotional team, so that makes the fight even easier. Let's see what happens."
Hearn had been hoping to stage the bout at a stadium in December, but Khan has revealed he wants to push it back to 2019 to allow for a longer promotional campaign, and training camp.
"This year, I think will be difficult," said Khan. "It will be probably next year, because we are coming towards the end and obviously we would want to promote that fight to be a mega fight.
"We want to make it the biggest fight probably in Britain for a long time. The way we do that is by promoting it the right way, and having a good training camp, so that way, there are no excuses."

Next thing Khan will be insisting on Kell being blindfolded and spun round 20 times in the corner before the first bell rings!

Still won't happen.......... And Brooks mad if he's agreed to this
Re: Amir Khan, Kell Brook; Agree to a Weight Clause
Another fight that is way past its sell by date.
This fight would have me so much more excited if it was made a few years ago, in my opinion both of these fighters prime is behind them.

Khan is deluded. I don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth.

Very much agree the fight is past its sell-by date, but in terms of the pure-Matchroom/Sky following, you could argue it is still huge. It will still do massive numbers.
I cannot see it happening personally, but the build-up would be entertaining and exciting to watch, like or loathe either fighter, this is one of the very few genuine rivalries in British boxing the last decade or so.
Not sure what the massive hoo-ha is r.e the rehydration clause. A fight a 147 should be a fight at 147, don't give me political rubbish if Brook has agreed, he has agreed.
Khan is the A-Side. Like it or lump he has achieved more and has a far superior resume.

154 would be fine for both guys. Khan's just trying to drain Brook because he knows a healthy Brook will paste him.
Re: Amir Khan, Kell Brook; Agree to a Weight Clause
I didn't like this story when I first read it. I'm no fan of Khan and so my initial reaction was that Khan was again acting like a big-shot. However, it's a safety measure on Khan's behalf and a sensible one from his perspective.
Khan stepped up from his division (welterweight) once before for big money and he got very badly knocked-out against a much bigger man (Canelo).
Khan is a very vulnerable fighter and can easily make 147 lbs. He is quite entitled to fight people his own size. He risked it before and he paid a heavy price. It makes no sense for Khan to fight at 154. And instead, from a health perspective it is actually prudent that he tries and keeps Brook being as light as possible.
My thoughts are that Brook will knock Khan out cold. Khan simply needs to try everything possible to mitigate against the risk of serious injury. The man is too fragile to be fighting light-middleweights and above.

Khan's taken long layoffs so he could bulk up, and ofcourse.... there's no testing during layoffs. I'm not sure Khan 'easily' makes 147... but he can still get there. Brook can't.liamlion wrote: ↑09 Oct 2018, 15:38I didn't like this story when I first read it. I'm no fan of Khan and so my initial reaction was that Khan was again acting like a big-shot. Re: Amir Khan, Kell Brook; Agree to a Weight Clause
Sensible thing for Khan to do , why should he give away to much weight in this one ,, For sure take a loss and in his case a bad ko for a big money fight with Canelo , after all no one expects him to do anything but lose , BUT in a fight like this thre is profesional pride at stake , his team will know if he gets caught clean he'll go , so why allow Brook to come in a lot bigger ,, Brook is the one pushing for it , if he wants it so bad , the weight will have to be the same .
I would say if there is no hydration clause , this fight is Brook being a profesional bully , , this clause just evens things up a bit , bigger guy , bigger puncher , simply now has to make weight , other than that , bring on Brook , -- Eubank ,,, course then Brooks team would say he's to big , scale him down to 154 .
I'm no Khan nuthugger , I think the guy is a dumb plonker , but he is brave , has shown a big heart in the past , and although for the large part completly deluded about himself , he's took on some good competition , and i can't help but notice Brook who for the large part of his carreer ducked good fighters , only seemed to get vocal about Khan , when he's at the tail end wants a big money fight , and has grew a lot bigger , , he did'nt seem to be vocal about the fight 4-5years ago ,

Re: Amir Khan, Kell Brook; Agree to a Weight Clause
In that case Brook his promoter , and trainer , should stop calling out welter weights , theres plenty of other guys his own size , out there who will be prepared to fight him , but then again he ususlly quits when he fights guys his own size

For safety's sake, and we want it to go more than two rounds, better make Brook wear a pair of these;

If feather fisted Vargas can drop Khan, maybe we better get him headgear as well?

Anything else we have overlooked?

Whilst funny I think you're overlooking how dangerous the weight cutting issue is. We often get guys who might have weighed in at the same weight, but come the ring bell it can look like one is a few divisions heavier.
With Khan at the end of his career & looking even more fragile than usual I don't think its that big an ask for Brooks not to put too much weight on. And if it is then Brooks can go & fight someone his own size, but we all know how that ends up.
Re: Amir Khan, Kell Brook; Agree to a Weight Clause
Oh for sure. I do remember the weigh in photos for Brook Spence, where Kel looked really drained. Luckily there is enough cash incentive for him to go back down you would hope. We never got to see if boiling himself down would have affected him in the later rounds, and I'm guessing we won't again this time.moogie101 wrote: ↑10 Oct 2018, 01:47
