I suspect the rumour is untrue.

I believe that Saunders had the option to have his B-sample tested at his own expense and if he had done so, with the result being clean, then VADA wouldn’t have been able to claim that the Brit tested positive for oxilofrine.

Therefore, there wouldn’t have been any need for the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission to hold a hearing to determine whether or not Saunders should receive a license for the Andrade bout and nor would the WBO have any reason to threaten to strip him of his title.

From what I can tell, the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission (MSAC) has to decide on the interpretation of the term “out-of-competition”, in the context of the use of oxilofrine.

VADA’s rules differ from the regulations adhered to in the UK, as per WADA, UKAD and the BBBofC.

Interestingly, USADA follows the same standards used by UKAD and WADA, as their rules state that oxilofrine is prohibited "in-competition" only (i.e. twelve hours before the start of a competition through to the end of the competition).

We know that the MSAC adheres to WADA’s prohibited list and doping standards, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that they won’t decline to provide a licence to Saunders, due to testing positive for a "banned" substance (based on siding with VADA's rules).

It’s a complex issue, because depending on what side of the pond you’re from, Saunders is either guilty or he’s innocent, but I guess there must be a legitimate reason why WADA, UKAD and USADA don’t ban the use of oxilofrine before the day of the fight.

I believe they were supposed to have met yesterday, but there aren't any details known yet about what transpired.

..it's unfortunate and in fact embarrassing that these organisations have failed so far to agree on basic rules..makes VADA clean boxing program enrollment sort of redundant and subsequent testing results inconclusive and largely dependent on the guidelines or should I say whims of local USADA/UKAD and Co...about time they got their act together..

Money talks. Nothing else matters when it comes to drug testing.

Haven’t actually seen any official announcement yet, but everyone seems to be reporting the same story including the mainstream press, so looks like fight is off.

Really?

That’s interesting because he wasn’t even at the hearing.

He sent a representative instead.

This rumour will have no truth to it.

If this was correct his promoter would have mentioned it in his statement a couple of days ago.
