benavidez is a bit green i think

ya nice unbeaten record but really very few fights vs anyone of note and i had him losing to herrera. he hasnt really done much at 147. i think being young and unbeaten he may at least have ambition, but its not a win that really would add much to crawfords standing in my eyes

ya, you can for sure find worse title defenses, but at crawfords elite level, he needs better names to really progress his spot in the sport i feel. hes a guy with lots of good wins but no real standout wins.

Apparently, TC best be on his A-game here. But Benavidez is no bigger than TC. Horn was much bigger.

Benavidez Jr. is longer, not bigger. While he certainly is NOT 6’2” as Boxrec claims, he is likely 5’11” with about a 72” reach. That is enough of an advantage length-wise to potentially give TC some trouble.

Of course, Postol is approximately the same dimensions and TC essentially skunked him. Benavidez Jr. is more crafty / gifted than Postol, IMO. He will need that and great heart to have a chance vs TC. Benavidez Jr’s best hope is to lure TC in, hurt him and get him to brawl. TC is not as accurate in those situations and he leaves himself more open to return fire.

Maybe, but it drew some attention to a fight where an undefeated record must go.

Yeh. There was literally no build up to this fight. Got announced lowkey. It’s in Omaha where we’re likely going to see more TC fans.

Boxrec did not even have it on the frontpage schedule until about 20 minutes ago.

Benavidez had a relatively near death experience, being shot and nearly bleeding out. That can steel a person mentally, and physically to achieve more.

This is a dangerous fight for Crawford.

Crawford has a very good hometown following, I've heard, they get great gate figures for his fights.

Granted, but why hasn’t ESPN promoted it better?

Yeh they must do. It’s over 10,000 seats and he’s the loca boy. It’s good he had a great following. I think most his fights will take place here. Or the Pinnacle. Bigger fights eg Spence etc. Will be New York or Nevada.

Let's hoping he puts on a good show and his fans travel with him. Bellew putting himself forward as an Everton fan and fighting at Goodison helped grow a loyal fanbase, Crawford might be onto a good thing.

A lot of UK boxers make it known which club they support. Football is the biggest sport in the UK no doubt. Boxers know through Football, they can grow a fanbase too. Bellew used to come on to the pitch at half time etc. Make a few appearances. They end up on shows like Soccer AM etc. Mix and match with footballers on Sky Sports News as well.

Crawford could do that with the Huskers or the Stormchasers (the latter has a great minor league baseball field, went there a few moons ago). Or maybe he has already :maybe:

The Pick: The promotion of this fight might have added to its allure but it’s hard to shake the idea that this really won’t be all that close. Benavidez has faced one truly world-class fighter to date. He walked away with a controversial decision over Mauricio Herrera and hasn’t been matched near that level since. Instead, one could argue that he’s been protected based on his matchmaking.

The challenger has some pop, a height advantage, and quick hands. Crawford has the edge in almost every category besides height. He appears quicker, is more fluid, more experienced, and while listed as orthodox has shown he can go almost an entire fight as capably from the southpaw stance. He also carries the sort of old school mean streak that would make a James Toney proud. Benavidez did his part to help sell the fight. Crawford will do the rest. Stranger upsets have happened but this feels like an easy Crawford pick with Benavidez perhaps sticking around to hear his fate on points.

I agree. The best realistic outcome for Benavidez is that he makes Crawford work for it.

Rd 1 = Ward manages Stevenson. Simion aggressive. Shakur floors Simion twice. Third KD. Ref calls it at bell.

I'm pretty sure it's also illegal under US law. There would only be one manager on contracts and so on.
