Artur Szpilka vs. Mariusz Wach - November 10, 2018

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

An all-Polish heavyweight showdown has been finalized for November 10 at the Arena Gliwice in Gliwice.

It's official! Artur Szpilka (21-3, 15 KO) will collide with Mariusz Wach (33-3, 17 KO).

Image

Szpilka is looking to keep his win streak going, after suffering back to back defeats to WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and countryman Adam Kownacki. Szpilka bounced back in May when he won a ten round unanimous decision over veteran Dominick Guinn.

Wach had a big upset decision win over Erkan Teper in March of 2017, but then in November of the same year he was stopped in nine rounds by top contender Jarrell Miller.

Image

An additional attraction of this rivalry is the fact that Andrzej Gmitruk, the former coach of Wach, is now in the corner of Szpilka.

Wach will smash Szpilka just like Kownacki did. On the same event we will see:
-Ewa Piatkowska (11-1, 4KO) defending her WBC Super Welterweight title
-MW Maciej Sulecki (26-1, 10KO)
-Undefeated CW Michal Cieslak (17-0, 11KO)
-Undefeated LHW Pawel Stepien (11-0, 10KO)
-LHW Marek Matyja (14-1-1, 6KO)

Apparently Sulecki is being lined up to fight Jermall in December?

Yes he was it's still possible but seems very unlikely. Sulecki is scheduled now to fight on Szpilka vs Wach undercard but in case that they will reach agreement with Charlo hes fight on this event will be cancelled.

Unfortunately no. He had to fight earlier this year vs Rosado in USA but probably due to financial reasons this fight didnt happened. Sulecki is dangerous but he doesnt generate money. Even in Poland he is unknown. I doubt that his next opponent will be better than top 100, Szpilka and Wach will sell out anyway.

Hopefully Wach's hand is 100% in this fight. If he's still in top form, he should be able to easily dispatch Szpilka.

I am surprised that 3 out of 10 people voted on Szpilka by KO - Wach was stopped twice but he was never down, if they let him continue he would last to the last bell vs Povetkin and Miller. Wach has arguably best chin in this division and Szpilka is not the greatest puncher.

Maybe - but i think that it will end up just like Szpilka vs Kownacki - Wach has granite chin, he is huge and strong, he doesnt need to have any respect for Szpilka's power and he knows that Szpilka is chinny. Wach showed in first rounds o Miller fight that he can be agressive. If it goes the full distance Wach might get screwed because Szpilka is the "A" side he generates money and this is the event of his promoter. So i believe that Wach will try to have the job done before the final bell.

This card might be decent. So far it's:

-HW BoxRec #31 Artur Szpilka (21-3, 15KO) vs BoxRec #33 Mariusz Wach (33-3, 17KO)

-MW #11 Maciej Sulęcki (26-1, 10KO) vs TBA

-SWW #7 Ewa Piątkowska (11-1, 4KO) VS #9 Ornella Domini (13-1, 3KO) WBC Female SWW Title

-CW #25 Michał Cieślak (17-0, 11KO) vs TBA

-LHW #45 Paweł Stępień (11-0, 10KO) vs #126 Dmitry Sukhotskiy (23-6, 16KO)

-LHW #77 Marek Matyja (14-1-1, 6KO) vs #401 Remigiusz Wóz (11-3, 6KO)

-SWW #164 Przemysław Zyśk (8-0, 3KO) vs TBA

-WW #481 Damian Kiwior (4-0) vs TBA

Evenly matched HW fight, Sulecki, world class LHW prospect vs Sukhotskiy, good CW prospect - i like it.

unfortunately it's a weak opponent: #231 Jean Michel Hamilcaro (26-9-3, 6KO)

I’m surprised people pick Wach to somehow ‘destroy’ Szpilka in a few rounds. Even Wilder needed 9 to finish him. And, at the very least in hand speed department, there’s no comparison between Wilder and Wach. I can see Szpilka stealing round after round, getting in and out and avoid most shots of the slow plodder that Wach really is. The fact Szpilka is under Gmitruk now makes me expect to see his improved version and with a good game plan.

Yeah I think so too, and Wach will most likely show up in much better shape than he did against the Big Baby, and hopefully his hand is all healed. I pick him by KO.

Agreed. I would definitely favour Wach in this fight. If Szpilka were to win it would be on points but I think a Szpilka win is less likely.

in Poland it's TVP1/TVP Sport and they have always a great quality stream on their website. unfortunately, since at least September they use the geoblockade on most of events, (before that i watched a lot of good boxing on their website without problems while i was in Spain like Joshua-Parker) but maybe if it's not broadcasted anywhere outside Poland they will unblock the stream - this event is a Knockout Boxing Night #5 - all the previous 4 edition i watched online on their website when i was in Spain without problems - so maybe they just block the events from the other countries due to licensing problems.

anyway, if it will be geoblockaded but someone uses one of the VPN programs (like SafeIP or HolaVPN) it will work fine for them - https://sport.tvp.pl/transmisje

Szpilka vs Wach starts at 10pm UK time.
