Re: Best British Trainer Round 1
As in, the best actual trainer? Or is this a fantasy fight club which only trainers are eligible to join?

I think it's out of Booth and McCracken who's number 1 but I'd go Booth

Re: Best British Trainer Round 1
Like this idea.
Booth over McGuigan. Interesting one as both have worked with Haye and Groves. Seem to have a similar demeanour in the corner, calm and collected. I'd side with Booth for his experience. Think he has more control over his fighters as well. Don't think we'd have seen him training Haye on a yacht in Miami, for example.
Gallagher over Sims. As much as his tactic of a tight guard without throwing punches for the first 6 rounds is frustrating, he does have some good achievements. Tactics in Smith/Groves were spot on. He was studying Badou Jack's win over Groves in one of the WBSS videos, could see elements of that in Smith's win. Do wonder if he's someone you have to be with from relatively early on (Quigg/Crolla/Beefy/Callum all were I think?) as opposed to a trainer who refines a fighter, e.g. no noticeable change or improvement with Butler.
Charles over Tibbs. Close one but Charles' longevity with Chisora (and the difference in Del when Don isn't there) just shade it for me. Lot of time for Tibbs though. Any man who calls Chisora a "fvcking minge" is someone I'd want in my corner.
Coldwell over Ingle. Might be going against the grain with this but went for what I've seen over reputation. Bellew credits Coldwell as being a massive part of him achieving more than anyone thought he would. Gave Bellew a proper rocket up the arse before the 12th vs Masternak. Would have been a very different last few years for Bellew had he not. IIRC he went over to the States last minute with Jamie Mc for the Kameda fight? Remember thinking his instructions really helped get Jamie the underdog win. Ingle lacks a few standout moments for me. The PED question mark clouds my judgement of him as well to be honest.
McCracken over Moore. Rate Moore highly but McCracken is probably #1 for me. Top class work with Froch. Doing similar with Joshua and lots of success with GB. Love his unflappable nature as well. Can tell he's just got no time for anyone's shite. 100% business.
Bull/Greaves I'm not as familiar with. I'd have to double check who they've worked with and at what points in their career etc. Might update this with an answer tomorrow.

Re: Best British Trainer Round 1
I would put McCracken #1 too.
Of course It helps being given top fighters and he hasn't had experience from taking them as kids, but he seems to get the best out of his fighters, Froch, Joshua, the GB team have done great too.
Re: Best British Trainer Round 1
Mcrackens calm way he's got about him is a good approach to training aswell imo
Re: Best British Trainer Round 1
Re: Best British Trainer Round 1
id say joe gallaghers the best
Re: Best British Trainer Round 1
joe gallaghers trained so many champs
Re: Best British Trainer Round 1
I don't rate him as the best but people like to have a go at Tesco and he is much under rated
Re: Best British Trainer Round 1
I think Caldwell has turned careers (such as Bellew's) around more so than Dom. Dom seems to be filling some massive shoes very well, but just personally I'd like to see him either get a fighter from absolute scratch or really turn a career around. Yes, I think had Billy Joe not had these current issues, I might have been swayed the other way.
Jonathan Banks did very well for a few fights with Wladmir Klitchsko, some of his best performances came under Banks (e.g. Pulev). However, I think we still see a lot of the credit going to Manny Steward and just Banks sustaining that legacy. For me, that's how I see Dom - it aint a bad thing, it is actually a very good thing. He's sustaining the legacy of one of the all time great British trainers, but think he just needs more time / evidence to establish his own stamp.... and yes the Billy Joe Saunders / Kid Gallahad incident does leave a bit of a bad taste.
