We have been trough this couple of times already but here it is again. Boxer who's perfect fight night weight is 205 is little bit too small for cruiser weight. He is going to have around 5 pounds weight disadvantage in the ring when fighting in cruiser weight.

What you are actually saying is you want to have weight class between lightheavy and cruiser to perfectly fit in the guys who are too small for cruiser.

This makes zero sense

Of course that's not what I'm saying.
Ok then tell me how does making super heavy for example 230+ will help a guy who's ideal weight in weight is 195 :maybe:
That’s a light heavy in 2018. Rehydrating from 175 to 190+ isn’t even all that extreme anymore. Until the massive dehydration cuts are ended then things like “ideal weights” are a moot point because there are so many massive drainers. I regularly cut 15 pounds back when I fought and I would say I never really had a “good” cut.

And sorry for the double post but boxing needs fewer weight classes, not more.

That's how it should look like in my opinion:

Minimumweight - 47kg (103,4lbs)
Flyweight - 49kg (107,8lbs)
Bantamweight -52kg (114,4lbs)
Featherweight - 56kg (123,2lbs)
Lightweight - 60kg (132lbs)
Super Lightweight - 64kg (140,8lbs)
Welterweight - 69kg (151,8lbs)
Middleweight - 75kg (165lbs)
Super Middleweight - 81kg (178,2lbs)
Light Heavyweight - 91kg (200,2lbs)
Cruiserweight - 100kg (220lbs)
Heavyweight - No Limit

12 weight classes is enough.

Then call them whatever you want but make them logical. For example you have super welter 147-154, a 7 pound parameter; then middleweight, 154-160, a mere 6 pound parameter; then super middle 160-168, 8 pounds; then light heavy, 168-175, just 7 pounds. Then it suddenly jumps to cruiser with a 25 pound parameter, 175-200. And then it's 200 with sky's the limit! Totally illogical and unfair. And that's not even mentioning the stupid light weight divisions separated by only 3 or 4 pounds invented just so they could sell tickets to more " championship" fights.

The logical way to do it would be to raise each weight class incrementally by percentage, not just random numbers here and there. You know something is wrong when they are calling someone the size of Plechko too small!

If you make jumps in weights to be incremental by percentage it would cause either too big jumps in lower weights or too much of higher weights.

That's Dag's original proposal. I can deal with that but I'd suggest a few touchups, like adjusting some of the spreads a bit so the higher weight classes always have more pounds between them than the class below, and I'd like heavy at 230 or at least 225 considering how big the top heavies have become.

You can't know much about a fighter whose average fight lasts 90 seconds, has never seen round 2, and has never fought a decent opponent. One thing I do know is he's not getting very good practice from his sanctioned fights, so he better have some formidable sparring partners.

I really like to think on changes in boxing. For example i also don't like the idea of multiple belts. WBSS inspired me on how it should look like. Let's name the new belt the "BoxRec World Championship" - the only real championship belt in boxing.

You get 8 fighters that are ranked highest in BoxRec. Let's take CW as an example:

1.Oleksandr Usyk vs 8.Andrew Tabiti
2.Mairis Briedis vs 7.Denis Lebedev
3.Tony Bellew vs 6.Maksim Vlasov
4.Murat Gassiev vs 5.Krzysztof Glowacki

Then

1/8 vs 4/5
2/7 vs 3/6

Let's say that Usyk won. Then he is the #1 in next tournament and spots 2-8 are taken again by BoxRec top ranked boxers. If someone from the top 8 refuses to participate then invite the #9 if he refuses too then #10 gets invited and so on.

If someone participated in last edition and lost but he is still ranked at top 8 he still remains the right to participate in next edition.

If champion is unable to participate then the tourament is postponed if it's no more than 3 months or starts without him for the interim version of belt. The Champion is guaranteed the right to participate in next tournament. If he is unable to participate again for the second time in a row, he gets stripped and the tournament starts this time not for interim belt but for the full version of championship.

If Champion gets injured during tournament then it's either postponed (if it's no more than 3 months) or it's continued without him for the Interim belt. Champion gets replaced by highest ranked available fighter but he remains his title. Of course he must be examinated by commision to prove that his injury is legit. Then Champion must participate in the next edition if not he gets stripped. If the injury is fake (like Fury's "mental issues") he gets stripped.

Injuried fighters are always replaced by the highest ranked available opponent.

If champion gets caught on PEDs he gets stripped and loses the right to participate in two next editions of the tournament. Same if the non-champion participant gets caught. If someone gets caught the second time he loses the right to participate in the tournament forever.

If fighter is inactive for more than 1 year he gets removed from the ranking and loses the right to participate in the tournament. He gets ranked again when he fights again.

The only question is that if Champion gets defeated in quarterfinal/semifinal and should the one who won immediately get the belt or only the eventual winner of the tournament gets the belt (just like in football, if France loses in next World Cup to Brazil in quarterfinals it doesn't makes Brazil the champion until they win the final despite the fact that they defeated the current champion).

Well, also that if #1 should automatically fight #8, #2 vs #7 and so on or allow the seeded fighters (1-4) choose from unseeded (5-8) but it's a minor problem.

That is how i think champions in boxing should be determined. But boxing is not a sport at all, it's unfortunately more like an entertaining business so it's impossible of course.

Ironically that weight distribution still leaves Ilya's 205 pound fight weight boxer without proper division.

If hes opponent drained just 10 lbs he would be 8.5 pounds lighter in the ring

Lot of tweaking for nothing

The first cruiser tournament was great. Only top fighter to miss it was Lebedev and hes pretty much over the hill anyways.

Tournaments would be great for the HW division. top 10 fighters fighting against each other is too much of a rare sight now days

It seems that Adamek actually really believed that he can beat Miller. He could fight another poor opponent in Poland for good purse, he could accept the offer from Bulgaria for far better money, he could fight Miller unprepared but he had full camp at Florida with professional and expensive team and with expensive and good sparingpartners.

That is how i think champions in boxing should be determined. But boxing is not a sport at all, it's unfortunately more like an entertaining business so it's impossible of course.

I agree with all that too - and yes it's turning into "an entertainment business" rather than a real sport, complete with "story lines" and staged pressers and oddly filmed encounters on the street or water or restaurants (like those Wlad and Briggs vignettes...cameras all ready and running!), half hour hollywood ring entrances, and of course the usual predetermined outcomes. Maybe they'll make them start calling it "sports entertainment" like they did to the McMahons when they forbid them from calling their wrestling shows a sport.

That's Dag's original proposal. I can deal with that but I'd suggest a few touchups, like adjusting some of the spreads a bit so the higher weight classes always have more pounds between them than the class below, and I'd like heavy at 230 or at least 225 considering how big the top heavies have become.
Minimumweight - 47kg (103,4lbs)
Flyweight - 49kg (107,8lbs)
Bantamweight -52kg (114,4lbs)
Featherweight - 56kg (123,2lbs)
Lightweight - 60kg (132lbs)
Super Lightweight - 64.5kg (141,9lbs)
Welterweight - 70kg (154lbs)
Middleweight - 76kg (167,2lbs)
Super Middleweight - 82kg (180,4lbs)
Light Heavyweight - 92,5kg (203,5lbs)
Cruiserweight - 103kg (226,6lbs)
Heavyweight - No Limit

This is edited version of my dream weight categories - special for You Ilya :D what do you think?
Ironically that weight distribution still leaves Ilya's 205 pound fight weight boxer without proper division.

If hes opponent drained just 10 lbs he would be 8.5 pounds lighter in the ring

Lot of tweaking for nothing

That's why i said I'd prefer more than one extra heavy weight class. Still it's better than getting in the ring with a guy who is a head taller and outweighs you by 50 pounds! Boxers should be weighed right before the the fight. If they are worried about making weight they should have access to accurate official scales in the days or weeks before. But this dehydrating and then piling on weight right before a fight is both unhealthy and unfair.
