Jean Pascal vs. Gary Kopas - OFF

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) reached an agreement this past Friday with MG Ring Productions, to stage a fight between the former WBC light heavyweight world champion Jean Pascal (33-5-1, 20 KOs) and Canadian cruiserweight champion Gary Kopas (10-11-2, 5 KOs).

The 12-round cruiserweight bout will be held on November 9 in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

It will be a second consecutive outing at cruiserweight for Pascal, and he will try to get his hands on a title and feels very determined to become a player at the weight.

The President of MG Ring Productions George Reynolds and the President of GYM, Yvon Michel, have negotiated for a little over a month and finally came to come to an agreement. GYM represented Jean Pascal and his advisor Greg Leon for this fight.

"Jean Pascal is a man of challenges and when he realized the seriousness of Kopas and his organization, he decided as usual to take it up," said the president of GYM, Yvon Michel.

Despite his record, He is undefeated in his last 6 fights since 2015.

Apparently he had 2 losses in 2001, then dissapeared? Came back in 2011..

Sounds like Amir Mansour..

Kopas won the canadian title against David Whittom (who died after the fight) in 2017.

Pascal is now officially a cruiserweight and should beat Kopas easily.

What Pascal should is actually retire.

I guess Pascal feels the need to add the Canadian Cruiserweight Title to his resume?

Should be easy enough. Doubt there's too much money in this to make it worth his while, but if he wants to keep at it in the fight game it's his call to make.

I wouldn’t say he’s taking THAT MUCH punishment either. The Kov rematch wasn’t pretty but he’s not all gone.

Maybe he plans on collecting regional titles? :maybe:

Win this Canadian belt then fight the winner of Arfan Iqbal vs Wadi Camacho for the Commonwealth title?

Yeh. I mean he’s won the world titles. He’s working backwards.

If Pascal captures that coveted belt, does he have to fork over for any future sanctioning fees?

He might try to get a cruiserweight title after Usyk moves to the heavyweights, he probably thinks he has better chances there compared to the talented lightheavyweight category.

IMO Pascal's era is gone, he possibly cannot stand vs a B class opponent like Anthony Yarde or Umar Salamov on LHW who say CW. Ascending boxers like Aleksei Papin, Arsen Goulamirian or Imre Szello wins over him easily.

seems like kinda of a needlessly bad opponent . i guess that belt means something to him?

hes past his best but he did totally clown and stop that unbeaten elbiali, who had looked an okay prospect.

i guess, at this stage, hes still a local draw and so fighting these types of guys hes likely not gonna take too much hurt or risk. he had a good career fighting many elite fighters so maybe hes just content these days with these types of fights. cant really slate a guy like him, think hes earned it.

There is literally zero chances for Pascal to get any title at CW, which is as talented, if not more, category as LHW.

If Pascal still wants to fight, i would like to see him vs Fonfara at CW.

He's now fighting Bivol on the positively final HBO card in November.

Doesn't sound good at all for Pascal's health.

He’ll likely lose via TKO, round 10-ish.. Bivol will break him down like Kovalev did.
