Irish heavyweight Niall Kennedy out-landed Brendan Barrett to win a sloppy, six-round heavyweight fight Saturday in Boston.

Kennedy, 34, knocked down Barrett in the fifth round and won their bout on all three scorecards on the Demetrius Andrade-Walter Kautondokwa undercard at TD Garden. Kennedy (12-0-1, 7 KOs) won by scores of 60-53, 60-53 and 58-55.

The 36-year-old Barrett, of Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey, lost for the first time as a pro (7-1-2, 5 KOs).

After dropping Barrett in the fifth round, Kennedy backed up Barrett by landing two jabs early in the sixth round. A straight right hand by Kennedy staggered Barrett with about 1:20 left in the sixth round.

Kennedy connected with a right hand that left Barrett holding at 1:15 of the fifth round and eventually sent him to the canvas. Barrett got up and fought through fatigue to make it to the end of the round.

Kennedy’s left hook moved Barrett backward with 1:40 remaining in the fourth round. Barrett hit Kennedy with a right hand that stopped him in his tracks late in the third round.

Barrett, who also has fought in mixed martial arts, threw Kennedy to the canvas with about 35 seconds to go in the second round. Referee Leo Gerstel issued a stern warning to Barrett after that move.

Kennedy rocked Barrett with a right hand that landed when they were in the center of the ring just after the halfway point of the first round. Barrett followed that right with a stiff jab.

Barrett drilled Kennedy with a right hand of his own a little later in the first round.

A good card will draw a good crowd to watch the undercard fights.

Andrade clearly outboxed Walter, the early rounds were especially exciting with those knockdowns. In the 1st there was no knockdown though, Walter was out of balance and he was hit, when he was down. In the 3rd it was a hard one, it seemed, Walter wouldn't get up, after he was dropped. The first knockdown of the 4th round was interesting, it looked like Andrade was also dazed a bit with a punch, that was landed on him, when he connected himself with dropping Kautondokwa. Did Andrade touch the canvas then? Could've been a double knockdown.

And for me it looks like, he was hit, while being in a bad position, out of balance.
