They did televise it. It was probably filler because of the abbreviated ending to Foreman-Ledoux. But I remember watching it saying to myself, where has Jeff Merritt been? He closed Ward's eye very early but Jeff wasn't the most Chuvalo-like in the chin department and Ward exploded on him in the 3rd and that was that.

Yeah, I'd love to see a video of the fight myself. I seem to recall reading in the issue of The Ring that covered the Foreman - Ledoux fight that Ward - Merritt was televised but I've always assumed that the film didn't exist aside from perhaps in some private collectors archives somewhere.

The two fights uploaded to this forum were Henry Clark KO1 Jeff Merritt and highlights of Jeff Merritt KO3 Ron Stander. It wasn't the Stan Ward fight.

As said previously I provided the link to those via AP archive. The Ward vs Merritt was on YouTube. ..it isn't now.

Okay, sorry, I must have missed that. I vividly remember the Clark and Stander fights being posted because I had been waiting literally decades to see Merritt in action and could not quite believe it was finally happening.

It's funny how we boxing fanatics can become damn near obsessed with seeing fights like this. I've been wanting to see this one ever since first reading the account of it in The Ring magazine back in 1976. As I recall, back at the time it was considered quite the upset as Ward only had five or six pro fights at the time & wasn't considered much of a puncher.
Speaking of heavyweight fights from back in the day that I've always wanted to see but never had the opportunity to another one of those is the John Tate vs Bernardo Mercado fight from 1978. I've searched high & low for many years but I've never even heard of a film/tape of it but it seems like it must have been recorded because it was a major fight held at MSG.
