A cup of coffee could provide more than enough to fight with more energy than Hughie.

THEBUTCH wrote: 27 Oct 2018, 18:00 Hughie has just gone down on points against one of the best heavyweights in the world in the guys back yard. It's no disgrace and he can come back better for it. He took a lot more risks in this fight than against Parker (who Pulev may be better than) so he's still learning and improving.
He was average at best. He's got skill and is a big man but there's a lot to do after 2 defeats.

The man is in a difficult position now.
He has been very vocal about his intention to drop the British title as he feels he is beyond that level and has said numerous times that if he will pack it in if he feels that he isn’t going to be the very best in the world.
He is only a baby so rebuilding is fine but as he just doesn’t sell, there must be a time when they no longer want to self fund opponents and he doesn’t want to box for free?

That was absolute aids that, I had Pulev 117-111, terrible fight, both guys were awful and their timing and accuracy was minging, Hughie reminds me of Bugner, decent skillset but just hasn't got whats required to step it up when needed, bad start getting cut like that from a jab, on the eyelid too that's usually a finisher straight away but it held up well, where was Shades of Ali? zero jab just holding out the left all night and throwing piss poor predictable right hands over the top which sailed over the heads of Pulev just about every time although he did hurt him in the 8th with it, missed with about 100 others, lay on the ropes too much trying to draw Pulev in but as I said far too predictable, the holding from both men was relentless, every single exchange finished with a hug

Messy as fvck as well Pulev's punches landed weren't all that either but he was seen to be pressing, the ref was shite, the camera cutaways mid round were disgraceful, just a shite fight all round, Fury's tactics and timings were non existent, Joshua will smash Pulev to smithereens

Just watched it.

Poor as I think it may have been. Hughie actually started ok. He landed a couple of bodyshots something he didn't try once against Parker then he just stopped.

Very scrappy fight all around, Hughie wasn't in the backfoot like I expected but he was nowhere near aggressive enough. I just hope people stop saying he will be this and that and just judge him in a fight by fight basis.

People really are ridiculous saying Hughie would cause Joshua problems each time he has stepped up to a decent level he has lost. The only thing for him now is keeping that British title and defending it. The Joyce fight would be interesting.

As for Pulev Joshua knocks him out in 6 rounds no problem. Pulev of 4-5 years ago may have caused him problems not now.

Tyson has not mentioned it one bit. Maybe the rumours with Paris are true?

Mick Hennessy has never mentioned Tyson in an interview since Fury left him. It like the press was told not to even mention it.

Hello.

Sadly, if young Hughie wants to win at the highest level he'll almost certainly need to dope. It's all well and good Peter saying "you can't juice your chin" but the truth is, when you're out muscled and the more tired participant in a mauling encounter against a quality operator like Pulev, who was stronger and more energised than he ever has been at a well worn 37, you're screwed. When you add in that he'll likely always be the away fighter in the big matches, it's a tricky path to chart.

Hughie "the shades of Malik Scott" Fury.

He simply is not that good.

Fury actually started quite well, getting behind the jab, throwing some nice body shots, but then got the cut. He was clearly worried that the fight would be stopped so he stepped on the gas, which is quite understandable. But then when the cut seemed to reduce in seriousness, he just carried on in the relentless overhand rights. He should have returned back to the jab, controlled the distance, and frustrated Pulev.

Problem is, Fury lacks the ring intelligence to change things up, and continued with the same tactic since the second round. I think Pulev is EBU level, so Fury might not even be at that level. He has had no progressive fights, just going from 17 month lay off (and a Kassi win) to fight Parker in a world title fight, and then fighting Pulev off the back of a Sam Sexton win. There is just no progression. He needs to have 3-4 fights at British level, get his gameplan worked out, and go from there.

Unfortunately, I suspect he will have a comeback fight, and then target someone in over his head again. Poor management.

Tricky going from big money of the last few fights to domestic level. Difficult matchmaking if they think he is above British level but is clearly not world class.

Hughie's stamina is awful, probably because he's so fat, and he has no boxing IQ; he doesn't work or jab, just tries to wing big right hands over, looking for a one-punch knockout even though he isn't a one-punch knockout artist. Totally delusional.

I know he's young and can learn, but does he want to? I can't see him bothering to get in shape, or losing his fixation with the 'big' right hand. He just doesn't have it. And Pulev, once so feared, is truly a poor and one dimensional boxer. His AJ fight will be a very short, brutal pension payout.

I have 5/6 points for Pulev. By the way, ugly match: low workrate for both, poor defense and poor power.

I got frustrated watching Hughie in the past but always thought he was fighting tactically. When he fought Parker, he was stepping up to a high level and his cautious approach might have been justified.
Last night revealed all as far as I'm concerned. He simply doesn't have it !
His left hand is totally non existent. No jab whatsover , no left hook and no left uppercut, nothing !!! His big overhand right swings were what you'd expect to see from a total novice. He fights the way he does because he can't do anything else.
I get the impression, that given his family background while growing up, he might have been 'forced' into taking up boxing and he never really wanted it. If I'm right its pretty sad because he's only boxing to please his family.
I hope he's earned enough so far that he can give up and start a new life doing something he enjoys.
I simply can't explain why someone his size, with a huge 'wingspan', and the years he's been in and around boxing gyms can't throw a nice firm solid jab??? I honestly could teach my 7 year old granddaughter to throw an effective jab. It was actually incredible watching Pulev walking forward and meeting nothing but a backward moving Fury throwing wild right hands hoping for a miracle.

Why are people hinting Pulev is in the gear ?

Hughie is the one who had failed a drug test and served a ban.

He lost fair and square.

Because of how he looked on the scales,he looked in far better shape than he has for most of his career and at 37 it may suggest something dodgy :maybe:

He has always looked in OK shape by today's standards. He was actually 200lbs in 2008 Olympics absolutely shredded but it killed him doing weight hence why he didn't medal.

If he blasted Hughie out early then yeah I would buy it.

I agree, both were terrible last night,if Pulev wins a round against Joshua i'd be very surprised.
