Round-by-Round: Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - October 27, 2018
Re: Round-by-Round: Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - October 27, 2018
Jacobs clearly won. He landed more punches and with better percentage. His shots landed cleaner and were more effective. Even 116-111 would have been fair.
Re: Round-by-Round: Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - October 27, 2018
Must be using different meaning of the word clear. Close but anything but clear. Had Sergiy up, even giving Danny more split rounds. Jacobs was pretty much finished in the championship rounds.
Re: Round-by-Round: Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - October 27, 2018
Thought Jacobs just edged it by a rd. I could find an argument for a draw and that would have been the best scenario. That kD rd 1 was a very unfortunate thing for dev, costly in terms of rds and maybe perceptions on who was bossing who.
Jacobs is very frustrating to watch. A poster was asking about his power - it’s still there but he’s very negative and flighty with his feet. Does the minimum, very awkward to land on. For a good 30 seconds at the start of the later rds and maybe even earlier rounds (I can’t recall) he was skipping away, completely disengaging running the clock while dev chased - makes for hard viewing.

It's why I'm not fussed about Fury vs Wilder.Ilya Muromets wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 01:39caldo2025 wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 01:00 They steal another one from the Eastern Europeans. Jacobs fought in rare spurts of every round and landed effectively but to me, I’m giving the round to the guy that WON THE 3 MINUTES. the judges and a lot of you fans see 3 cool punches land and you award the fighter the round neverminding what happened the other 2:52 of the round. This sport sucks balls.
Completely agree. I knew the fix was in because the talking TV heads were just automatically giving every round to Jacobs on their scorecard. I had to shut the sound off because I can't stand listening to them, especially Kellerman. Like the guy above said, good riddance to HBO boxing. In boxing if there's a high profile fight in the US, especially NY or LV, I expect a fake judge decision. I'm rarely if ever disappointed.
Fury might as well go into that with 3 points deducted.
They're never gonna give him the decision.

What a great fight. Just a great fukkin' fight. An elite level contest. A competetive action-packed showdown with a display of skills and determination. An instant classic championship fight for me.
Derev was very good. He pressured for the whole fight, threw some polished combos. He was especially good early despite being caught in the 1st, then he blew the mid-part of the bout, but he courageously came back late. Yet Jacobs was even better. He demonstrated an impressive defence with that movement, shoulder-rolls, counter-punching, placing punches well between Derev's ones. It was a pretty close contest, but Jacobs still won clearly for me. Derev should be given a big credit, but not the total score.
I had it like that:
1: Jacobs 10-8
2: Derevyanchenko 10-9
3: 10-10
4: Jacobs 10-9
5: Derevyanchenko 10-9
6: Jacobs 10-9

10: Derevyanchenko 10-9
11: 10-10
12: Derevyanchenko 10-9
Total score: 116-113

Ive just watched the fight.
- beautiful display of boxing skills by both fighters, boxing at his best !!!! Jacobs is one of very few boxers who are entertaining while fighting backfoot. It was also nice to see that stance switching. Surprised how Derevyanchenko take those murderous body shots without a problem. He was able to apply constant, effective pressure fighting for 12 rouds.
- for me, Jacobs won, something like 115-112, but many of rounds were hard to score. Punching power is something that cost Derevo the fight.
- Jacobs is definitely number 3 middleweight in world based on achievements. Arias, Sulecki and Derevyanchenko are very nice victories despite all was on points. Alvarez vs Jacobs make sense on may 2019 for me.
- Derevyanchenko is not really a loser. After 12 fights against B and C class oponents he introduced himself at big stage and i think people liked what they saw.

Far too easy to shout fix or robbery. The contrasting opinions on here alone show you a SD is pretty much on the money.

From round 6, until the championship rounds was all Jacobs. He took full control. I agree Derev came on strong last few rounds. I don’t think the KD would have made a difference whether it was or not.
Re: Round-by-Round: Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - October 27, 2018
It's sad ha? Back in the day, judges used to be more favorable to the champion. The challenger would have to clearly beat the champion to win the belt off him most of the time. Rarely would evenly contested or close bouts be given to the challenger which is why they had the statement "you really have to BEAT the champ to be the champ". I never agreed with that notion at the time but nowadays that statement should be updated to "you really have to BEAT the A Side Fighter to be the A Side Fighter".Ilya Muromets wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 01:39caldo2025 wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 01:00 They steal another one from the Eastern Europeans. The scorecards last night were putrid except for Lederman's card. She should be commended for calling it honestly. There were rounds that were given to Jacobs last night by the other 2 judges where Jacobs languished on the ropes taking punches for most of it. This sport is just garbage now and i'm a lifelong purist but i'm just so tired of seeing the injustices and no repercussions.

All Jacobs? What a bunch of crap. Jacobs clearly won only 2 rounds out of 12.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 07:16From round 6, until the championship rounds was all Jacobs. He took full control. Just because the fighter you wanted to see win loses, doesn’t mean he should’ve won.
8/13 fans scorecards from EyeOnTheRing scored in favour of Jacobs.
http://www.eyeonthering.com/boxing/dann ... mment-form
Most media that I HAVE read so far had it close win for Jacobs.
There will be a lot more than 13 scorecards on that website by end of the week.

6, 7, 8, 9 where Jacob rounds. With the exception of 6 being close. 10, 11, 12 I scored for Derev. 11 was also close tbh.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 10:10All Jacobs? What a bunch of crap. I thought it was a boring fight that jacobs edged due to the knockdown. 114-113.
Jacobs will lose to any of the top guys at MW.

I also find his style boring. It’s mostly his opponents that make it good. Arias was just negative.
Sulecki pushed him and made it a decent scrap. This fight again. Jacobs on the backfoot, some have said he makes it entertaining. I find it boring.

At least 7-8 of the rounds were very close and could be scored either way. It was expected that judges will give most of those to the A side. However, when a fan says "it was all Jacobs", it sounds ridiculous.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 10:11 Just because the fighter you wanted to see win loses, doesn’t mean he should’ve won.

You really are a punk. This was one of the most entertaining MW fights of the decade and NO, Jacobs will not clearly lose to any of top MWs unless somebody manages to catch him cold like Pirog.

It wasn’t THAT a good. Derev made the fight what it was. Still lost. But if it wasn’t for his style, we would have seen a recap of Jacobs vs. Arias.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 11:25You really are a punk. I can't believe this fight was remotely controversial to anyone. Derevyanchenko was busier but his shots were usually blocked or glancing. It wasn't a blowout or anything but 115-112 Jacobs was the 100% correct score.
Re: Round-by-Round: Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko - October 27, 2018
You were listening to the commentary too much. I bet you thought Jacobs blocked so many shots yet was the one that was broken down by the end of the fight. Close fight that could've gone either way.jujigatame wrote: ↑28 Oct 2018, 12:12 I can't believe this fight was remotely controversial to anyone.
