How good was Gregorio Peralta?

Post by scorpio83 »

I would like to know how good was Argentine light heavyweight and heavyweight contender Gregorio Peralta? He was a good stylist and tricky boxer who fought the best in his time with World Light Heavyweight Champion Willie Pastrano and future World Heavyweight Champion George Foreman and great contenders like Oscar Bonavena and Ron Lyle. Peralta was also a good counter puncher, but according to Joe Ryan who wrote Heavyweights of the 1970s: The Great Fighters and Rivalries stated he wasn't a puncher despite the fact Peralta scored 60 knockouts in his career which doesn't make sense to me unless he neither watched his fights or the films were lost.

He was a decent near-top competitor, who is likely to be recalled in a prober way now.

Smart and durable. Good not great but a savvy pro. Excellent display of toughness and grit in getting a draw against Lyle. Lyle claimed he was robbed but a draw was the right decision. His deaw with Bonavena was a robbery though.

My guess that Peralta was an above average puncher after scoring 60 knockouts in his career and yes, he was clever.
