SKY Sports are shite

Post by Ezzard »

Just watched the Jacobs fight...

Close fight. Excellent fight. Completely ruined by an absolutely terrible broadcast.

Can I please have a discount for SKY sports and not get the audio. Awful. AWFUL. Commentary. What's the point in having two analysts who just agree with one another?

US commentary is often prejudiced to the house fighter...but tonight was awful. Amateur stuff.

I don't mind paying for the pictures. BUT that commentary and analysis was SHIT. Terrible... There's an art to making the house fighter seem better than they really are and the team weren't even accomplished at that.

Embarrassing for SKY.

Aye and people turned on Jim Watt towards the end. And sky fell out with McGrory. Look what they ended up with.

I think Macklin is OK but Smith, Barker, Froch and Bellew shouldn't be anywhere near the commentary box.

Jim Watt could read a fight. He just got old was all. Wonderful person.

Nothing against any individual involved with the broadcast, But that cannot happen again. It's all too frequent. I get that the channel want a certain fighter to win... Just try a little harder to hide it because it's SO obvious and RUINS my enjoyment of a fight I have paid for.

I don't dislike anyone. I also feel that it's okay to have someone with a strong opinion but professionally someone needs to understand what they are putting out.

This had happened before but this weekend was appalling.

Normally Bellew is ok. But last night he was also terrible. Smith and Spencer were bad. Smith just repeats the same shït different day.

Smith is absolutely dire on commentary - does he actually have any broadcasting credentials, or does he just insist on doing the commentary because he’s head of boxing for Sky?

There's worse, did you watch the Pulev/Fury coverage? Crappy camera work is a failing of tradecraft, poor commentary is an opinion.

Well no disrespect to Bulgarian TV, but I’d fully expect Sky’s camera work to be of higher quality, given the amount we pay for it.

Sky are awful! They used to be the kings of boxing but they've managed to turn it in to a boys/pals club! I thought Macklin was decent the other night and there's a lot of potential in their ranks but they're just mostly singing from the same hymn sheet!

They pander to the casuals and ruin what could've been a good channel!

What were they saying that was so bad?

I caught the fight in the morning on a YouTube upload and that was HBO commentary.

At one point The Ukranian landed 3 punches and they were drooling over Jacobs' classier work.

Surely the whole point of two analysts is to balance the coverage.

I don't want to hear about the find memories of the commentator...he should just commentate. Accept that less is more.

It was a close fight. The right man got the decision but it was ruined by their constant bias.

Yeah, Smith in particular was obsessed with telling his own pre-prepared ‘story’ of how the fight was going - Jacobs being the slickster who dominated the fight with silky skills, Derevyanchenko being the brawling underdog who tried hard but didn’t have the class - leading him to miss key points of the fight itself.

Smith and his useless sky boxing goons are the worst I’ve ever heard, the absolute pits.

Every boxing event on Sky is a Matchroom show.

Like a gathering of the stable alont with a few others.

That's it. It was close. The KD likely the key swing moment.

Without the KD, it would have been 115-113 Derev | x2 115-113 Jacobs

Would have still been a SD. still good scorecards.

Spencer Oliver had Jacobs 10 rounds up after two.
Machado being compared to Corrales before he even threw a punch.

Smith was the best last night. Derevyanchenko got Zero credit from SKY.

Sky's output in terms of volume of fights is improving, when you lump BT,BN, C5 and ITV into the mix there has never been more boxing on TV which is great and there are only so many commentators to go round.

Now I know he gets a lot of stick, but the thing is Adam Smith is genuinely awful as a commentator. He really can't read a fight. The audience doesn't trust him because of his position, and because of his ineptitude. Why doesn't the guy just be the figurehead and sometime undercard commentator? Surely, no matter how much he wants to be, he must know he is not up to the job?

It's not that the guy is marmite or anything like that, a guy with opinions. He is just plainly awful!

Why does Smith commentate? Isn't he Director of Boxing? Are Sky Sports really that strapped for cash that they have to multi-job? Or is Smith that much a narcissist?

All I want from Smith is to be a little more neutral. The commentators on the Flanagan fight were also totally biased and basically spoke about one fighter the whole time.

Yeah. The blame for that can't be put on Channel 5. They were using foreign TV pictures.

They even apologised for it at one point.

They have all the money and tools to make the shows top class it's just the personnel that fukk the whole thing up! Sad thing is that the people involved seem to be a wee clique and will be there for the foreseeable! Fuckin boys club... Reminds me of the wicker man a wee bit... Wankers

I think Barry Jones is very measured and is the best analyst in any sport on TV.
