You make it sound like Mayweather is an old big name on his way out, ready for the taking when the reality is he is one of the most dangerous fighters out there and the P4P #1 in his prime. Beating him is no easy matter.ALI wrote:De La Hoya would murder Hatton, of that i am sure. Hatton should forget about all other options and start calling out Mayweather, i believe he has a great chance of beating him. Mayweather will be beaten soon, certainly if he fights De La Hoya next. And it will be the first man to beat him that gets all the props! I'd like that man to be Hatton.
Hatton is on the shortlist.

Because DLH is at his best coming in the ring at 165 and PBF is at his best around 135-140. Hes been looking slower at 147 and will look slower still at 154 (where the fight will be demanded). DLH is still P4P standard, its just a matter of if he can get his shots off on PBF because if he can PBF won't stay standing. PBF is also fighting a guy whos 5'11 with a great jab - thats not easy to get in and out on when your 5'8.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I fail to see why people have such confidence in DLH beating Mayweather, he's past his prime a while ago, probably as much a 4 years, beating on the limited and declining Mayorga like a gona and facing liquid dynamite like Mayweather are about as similar as stilton and angel delight.
This could look like PBF-Corrales but DLH is too ring savy with his jab to let that happen but PBF needs to be at his best to pull this 1 out.

Where does it say DLH weighs 165 come fight night, where did you get that from? Floyd apparently weighed 150 on the night against Gatti, and about the same against Judah I believe.
Floyd hasn't looked slow to me at all, and with his defensive skills, he doesn't rely on scampering around the ring anyhow.
Oscar only has a single inch reach advantage, and with Floyd's timing, that isn't a big deal.
Oscar will carry a size and strength advantage into the ring, but not by a great deal in my personal opinion. DeMarcus Corley said that Mayweather was a lot stronger than Judah having fought both.
Let's not forget, Oscar was at his best at 147.

Did you see him against Mayorga - he was fornicating HUGE. Hes 5'11, his back, shoulders, abbs - everything is very very thick - he just looks BIG. Delahoya refused to be weighed but he looks like someone whos put on 10lbs to me.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Where does it say DLH weighs 165 come fight night, where did you get that from? Everything I'veread says PBF fights the same weight he weighs in at but maybe thats hype. You can't get away from the fact he looks very small and not as quick at 147 (or maybe thats because hes been in with 2of the fasterfighters of recent years?)
dlh is not as great as you portray him to be. in his biggest fights, against mosley I and trinidad, he just didn't fornicating want it enough. he was hustled out of it by a lightweight mosley and gave away a whole 3rd of a fight vs trinidad cos he knew he couldn't keep his boxing up. i've always been baffled by the infatuation with dlh. film star good looks, what the fornicate do i care about that?ALI wrote:De La Hoya would murder Hatton, of that i am sure. Mosley actually outweighed DLH on fightnight and DLH also started at lightweight. Hes beat the best at lightweight, light-welter, welter and light-middle - hes a legend in our own time. Who has he not fought in these divisions? Practiculy fought everyone and either held his own, won or destroyed his opponent. Just watching DLH is something in itself - speed, power, combos, movement - there are some weaknesses that Mosley and Whitaker have exploited but not too many.
RE Trinidad - DLH won plain and simple, I'd like to see a good argument in how you can give 7 rounds to Tito
If Hatton fought DLH he'd get beat on as badly as Mayorga or Gatti DLH is a great and much much bigger.

So hang on, Mosley outweighed DLH on fight night, yet you are contending that at the same time DLH is the naturally bigger man than Hatton.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Mosley actually outweighed DLH on fightnight and DLH also started at lightweight. Hatton weighs in at 154 come fight night fighting at 140, and I would contend that Hatton is actually the naturally bigger man, though not by much. Hatton is a very physically strong man, and Mayweather though not a naturally brawny guy is very athletically strong.
For all his strengths, DLH struggled with Mosley's speed and straight punching and simply couldn't keep him off him in the 1st fight, and earlier in his career benefitted by cheating the scales and weighing in with big weight advantages. There's no doubting Oscar is a modern great, but I think Mayweather's overall skills are the best I've seen since Sugar Ray Leonard, and like Leonard he seems to have a good chin too.
Oscar is really natural 140lber who grew into a Welterweight, and late on a 154 lber. However, talk of him entering the ring as a middleweight are nonsense, he isn't muscular enough to put on that amount of weight, even though he has the bone structure for it, he's just not built that way. This is why he came in light and in shape for Hopkins, rather than the bloated guy who fought Sturm and looked like dogshit.

Yes but Mosley cheated the scales much the same way, so did Morales, etc etc. yes Mosley had the style to beat Hoya.jamesmcdonnell wrote:So hang on, Mosley outweighed DLH on fight night, yet you are contending that at the same time DLH is the naturally bigger man than Hatton.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:Mosley actually outweighed DLH on fightnight and DLH also started at lightweight. Hoya is 5'11, a long reach, and hes just growing into his man strength at 154. IMO comparing Hoya to Hatton size wise is like comparing Winky to Mosley (ie strength wise Mosley may be stronger but Winky is the bigger man). Even at 140 I would pick Hoya to box Rickys ears off with ease but at 154 it would be an absolute massacre.
Hoya was beat by 2 of the worlds best MWs (and huge MWs at that - BHOPs weigh 171 against Oscar from what I heard) but hes still huge at 154.

Bernard Hopkins is not a huge middleweight by any stretch of the imagination, anyone who is coming in at 158 at the age of 40 is not a huge middleweight. Steve Collins was a huge middleweight, Tony Sibson and Marvin Hagler were huge middleweights, enormous great slabs of bristling aggression.
Whichever way you try to talk it around, Oscar is not some enormous great brute, he simply isn't, he's tall and rangy, but he's not a physical monster at 154, or even at 147.
I think Oscar does have the skills to beat Hatton, though I would question how well Oscar would cope with being pressured by someone as relentless as Hatton at the age of 34. Hatton would force him to work at a pace that Oscar is no longer accustomed to, and was never than comfortable with in any case.

Mayorga has all the technique of a drunk swineherd, Hatton is a far more polished operator with underrated footwork.
Next time Hatton fights, ignore his upper body and watch his feet, and how quickly he can change angle, direction and close the gap, it's the most underrated aspect of his game. He's no defensive genius, but he makes it hard for his opponents because they don't have the time to get extension on their shots before he is on them.
DLH is a far better all round fighter than Hatton, but Hatton is very very effective and works to his strengths, which is what you need to do to be successful. I didn't think he dwarfed Mayorga (who is himself a blown up welterweight), he was taller, but Mayorga looked the more muscular of the two.

pathetic. you have the balls to assume i "haven't been watching boxing long enough", is that how you justify your own nut hugging? most ppl feel he went 1-1 with old whitaker & Quartey, PW who came in with a nose not unlike daniella westbrooke's & Quartey who was overrated
oh and his awesome reigns at 130 and 135, i remember far back enough to know that oscar was not only about twice the size of his opponents, but he also weighed a lot more also. even though he had a nasty advantage over ppl at 135, did he ever fight Nazarov?

Spin the Trinidad fight anyway you want to, fights are scored on the 10 point system and as such DLH won that 1.
He fought good champs at 135 (notice I don't call him a champ at 130 and 160 because I don't consider him 1), Navrov wasn't that good and would have been mauled by DLH
Look at his 135 reign - Hernandez (unbeaten P4Per), Paez (belt holder), Ruelas (IBF champ) ko'd in 2 and went on to go 12 with Tyuzu, Leija (no 1 else put him away like DLH). Yes DLH was huge at the weight just like Mosley was and Castillo/Corrales/Cotto/Harrison all are today - yet they don't dominate in the same manner. Not to mention he was 21 when he started his reign, how old was Hatton?
And as for Charvez been shot, he was just as shot as the Tyszu was that Hatton beat, and guess what DLH didn't just win he dominated and won easily.
Yes DLH is a shoeshine puncher - thats why he always stopped guys rounds before Tyszu and he put Mayorga down with the first pucnh of the fight
I can critisise your boyfriend Hatton for many things other than gassing but I won't. If Hatton fights and beats a quarter of the great fighters as DLH does he'll be considered an ATG. Hatton isn't even attempting to fight the same standard of fighter DLH faced.
Tszyu was still very highly regarded going into the Hatton fight. dlh-tito was an awful fight. that's what i don't like about dlh, his fights seldom delivered the hype.
dlh didn't stop ma gonzalez at all, tszyu did. anyhow kostya was more methodical, but also more precise. dlh wanted no part of nazarov, who was an Oustanding lightweight in his day and was ranked above dlh, stevie johnston and mosley, before age and injuries caught up with him
dlh is obviously a very good fighter, to have won the fights he did and to hold his own with a lot of top guys. but come on, ricardo vargas held his own with just about everyone and no one's raving about him
don't forget he was outclassed by hopkins
Hatton has just beaten a great fighter in tszyu. also, he's in the process of fighting an underrated quality awkward fighter, not too many of them on dlh's record where he basically picked whoever he wanted when he wanted
i'm not the biggest hatton fan, but i give him credit for what he's done

I think the most difficult fight for De La Hoya is Winky Wright – he looked a solid middleweight and southpaw's always gave Oscar most trouble.
Stylistically I don't think Mayweather is as tricky. Still a tough fight obviously but I give De La Hoya the edge. If Corley can make Mayweather's eyes roll at 10 stone a De La Hoya left hook at 11 stone can knock him out.
