Poor fight. The guy with the better basic boxing skills had enough to win.

Fury is still young and can come again but he needs to work on his basic skills more. He looked pretty clumsy and amateurish at times last night when he was throwing punches.

A spell back down at British and European level could stand in him in good stead for a future tilt at world level further down the line.

I doubt Hughie would ever leave, or even question Peter. He seems a man child. Peter is definitely the boss in his own house/caravan.

I agree - and there lies the root of the problem he has with Tyson.

As plenty of others have said some decent basics but not enough power or passion to dent the top level.

The fact that he's losing to Pulev, who is pretty limited, tells you everything.

Why was Peter's career so short? It seems odd to stop after one fight, even if it was a loss.

Let’s not make out Pulev is rubbish here - Wlad is the only guy to ever beat him professionally.

He was inactive, had only fought shot old shells of fighters in his past couple of fights, and was widely regarded to have shat it from AJ. I wonder how many people actually watched any of his fights since losing to Wladamir, other than his dominance of Chisora (a win that most wrote off because Del was "unmotivated")? The reality is that Pulev has never been rubbish and Hughie has been hugely overrated by the Fury groupie crew. That doesn't mean Hughie is as bad as everybody who is throwing him under a bus is making out.

I mean, I'm quite pleased he lost because that means I don't have to watch him fight for a while, but he's no worse than I ever thought he was. People do seem to be relishing sticking the boot in here.

I think it boils down to a couple of things:

#1- You Cannot Rush Greatness in This Sport

Hughie should have had more "middle of the road" fights; it seems he went from third-and-second tiers to contenders and that's quite a leap, even if he has been involved in world class training camps since he was 18 years old. He's a very skilled young man, yes, but his greenish ways are clear to see.

#2- Hughie should have been fighting more!

Despite what Peter Fury & Mick Hennessey want to say, nobody is really avoiding Hughie Fury--- he could have been fighting the Sam Sexton's and Richard Towers' and David Allen's of the world a long time ago staying active and getting sharper and developing more power, but they wanted to hold him out for "something special". Iron sharpens iron. He's only fought 2-3 times in 3-4 years. That is absolutely tragic.

#3- Inflated Sense of Who He Is and What He's Capable of Doing

Let's be honest here, the kid may have the skills to hang with top contenders or fringe contenders, but he's not necessarily one himself--- he's just outside of that bracket--- The Fury's have a self-belief that is both beneficial (as in the case of Tyson Fury) and detrimental (as in the case of Hughie Fury). If you believe you're greater than you actually are, you'll find yourself deep in disappointment. Hughie is 24, so he has plenty of time to "come into his own", but he cannot force himself where he's not ready. Be realistic--- does a Sam Sexton fight really warrant a Kubrat Pulev fight? Not in my eyes, and I love the Fury's. Does fighting once or twice in three or four years really warrant keeping you in the top ten or fifteen? Again, no, not in my eyes.

#4- He's Not Tyson Fury

He doesn't have the WILLINGNESS to mix it up like Tyson has. He doesn't have the GRIT to take one and dig down deep and fight back harder like Tyson has done. He doesn't put his punches together like Tyson does. If Tyson Fury is likened to Muhammad Ali, then Hughie Fury is Joe Bugner. There is a world of difference between an Ali and a Bugner--- and there's nothing wrong with being Bugner, but you can't expect to be a world's champion fighting like a Joe Bugner. Hughie has got to get over this "gun shy" nature of his and throw punches in bunches. I love the "sweet science", but even a master craftsman like James Toney made it interesting.

Some very good assessments here. I was astonished at how bad his punch technique was and how little input it would appear he received between rounds.

He needs to be back fighting 3-4 times a year. He's survived twice at world level but he's not close to a finished fighter and needs more rounds, more activity.

https://boxingwriter.co.uk/2018/10/28/fury-disappoints/

I was massively disappointed in him, for all the caveats about age and the cut, the venue, the lack of experience etc, the fact he can't throw a straight right or keep his shape after he's thrown in were alarming.

I'm trying to figure out how Tyson is some world class boxer with legendary defensive skills and lightning fast reflexes.
It's insanity on here.

And as soon as Tyson loses we will be hearing how he's a bum just like we are hearing about Hughie
