Top promoter just now?

Post by Stuarty »

Who you think is the top man just now? Hearn puts on big stadium shows etc but most of the fights are pish. Money wise you'd think he'd be way ahead of everyone else...

I'm not really up to date on the American scene just now in that regard. Seems to be a bit up in the air over there just now.

For me Kalle Sauerland is the man. Hes doing what nobody else is doing and trying to put on the big fights where the fighters are evenly matched. The WBSS is top class. I hope it continues and more top guys get involved :TU:

I love the WBSS but this series has so far been promoted very poorly.

I read an article that there were less than 1,000 people at the Prograis vs Flanagan fight which, if true, is embarrassing. I’ve also seen very little publicity in the U.K. for this weekend’s round of fights. If it’d been a Hearn or even a FW show we would have heard far more about it. Also the fact they’re yet to get a TV deal in the U.K. is really disappointing for us.

For me Top Rank are still top dog worldwide and Hearn is number 1 in Europe.

My big concern though for Matchroom is them spreading themselves too thin. With them looking to get a foothold in the US they’re clearly leaving shows later to announce in the U.K. (the Brook show is 5/6 weeks away and yet to be announced plus the same with the December 22nd PPV - a year ago and these shows would have been locked down far sooner). Plus the quality of undercards for his U.K. shows has got worse as he’s using several of the fighters on his US shows. He’s about to launch in Italy (as well as Germany) which may only increase the issue.

Mick Hennessy changed the game with the Pink Tyson show on Youtube.

Seemed to inspire Top Rank, DAZN and WBSS all going on a online platform.

Some good points there man. It's funny how fast car can sell and promote pure shite to the masses but genuinely good fights only get watched by the hardcores! Goes to show that our sport needs these casual wanks!

TopRank are decent but they need to make better fights. That's what the fans want! Not Crawford (who I fuckin love) vs a string of bums but top fights. Porter, Garcia, Thurman, Spence!

Eddie has sold some crap shows this year extremely well. Okolie vs Chamerlain did 9k tickets and the recent Ritson show did a similar number. Also selling 20k tickets for Whyte vs Parker is bloody good going.

Eddie’s got a lot of faults (I don’t always like his matchmaking) but he’s a very good promoter.

I agree with your points on Top Rank - as with Matchroom they need to make bigger fights for Crawford but I love the way they’ve matched and promoted Lomachenko.
