Jarret Hurd vs. Jason Welborn - December 1, 2018

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

BoxRec reports that Jarrett Hurd and Joe Joyce have opponents for their December 1st appearances on the Deontay Wilder-Tyson Fury undercard.

Jason Welborn (24-6, 7 KO) was last seen winning his second consecutive split decision over Tommy Langford, defending the British middleweight title he’d taken from Langford the first time around. He hasn’t fought at 154 since losing a decision to Craig Cunningham in 2016.

His losses include Frankie Gavin, Liam Smith, and Matthew Macklin.

Welborn is on a roll, a late career bloom.
It ends here.
I do think he can be game in this fight, nothing to lose, fit and active.
Maybe he is the second or third best opponent Hurd has faced :maybe:
Either way, Hurd is too big, too strong and Jason too easy to hit.
I think it is going to be hard to watch after the first 3 or 4 rounds.

Non-title fight?

Probs for the best. He’s just had shoulder injury in June.

That's what I heard before, but I don't listen as often as I used too.

Isaac Lowe and Chis Arreola are on the non-Televised card. Showtime will be showing Adonis-Gzodvixk before going to PPV.

There’s a strawweight fight which I have posted.

Option 1, fight Mark Heffron for the British belt in the UK.

Option 2, fight for 2 legit world titles in the US on the undercard of a huge PPV fight.

We know the option he took.

Looks like it will be for the belts at 154.

Good fight if you're Welborn.

Probably only get around $100k. Would still be his highest payday.

Great fight for Welborn, I like it when boxers have a surge towards the end of their careers he’s certainly a fighter I never thought would be challenging for world honours.

In terms of history it’s probably similar to Gary Lockett facing Kelly Pavlik but I’m sure Welborn will give it everything there aren’t many fighters who get to fight for a world title even these days.

Probably is. You know the WBA. 3 different champions in 1 weight class along with like 4 mandatory challengers.

This is a voluntary anyway.

Not slagging Welborn off but his record is 24 Won 6 Lost ... he's only got 7 KO's and been knocked out in 3 of his 6 losses.
Only a couple of years ago Welborn lost a points decision to William Warburton who's record was 18 Won 96 Lost 8 draws.

Seems an obvious one sided fight looking at some of the numbers.

Fight week.

Probably not his best opponent but Hird hasn’t had the easiest fights.
I think this will go on just before the main event.

Welborn won't see the second half of the fight for me. Anyone know what the purses are for this fight?

I should be able to find out the purses by Thursday or Friday.

I’m guessing Hurd be will getting around $500k and Welborn no more than $100k.
