Ted Cheeseman To Appeal 60-Day Medical Suspension
Ted Cheeseman could be out until next year despite a career-best win last weekend.
The new British super-welterweight champion claimed the vacant title in a gruelling 12-round showdown against Asinia Byfield at the Copper Box Arena in London, exclusively live on Sky Sports.
Cheeseman knocked down the former Southern Area champion in the fifth round in the capital and had been expected to be back in action before the end of the year.
But securing a spot on the same Sky Sports Box Office-aired bill as Dillian Whyte’s heavyweight rematch against Dereck Chisora, at the O2 Arena in London, exclusively live on Sky Sports Box Office, could be far-fetched after it was revealed that the ringside doctor decided both men cannot box again for 60 days.
“I’m waiting to see what happens with my suspension but Barry [Hearn] is going to appeal it,” said Cheeseman. “If it is upheld then I won’t be out again until the new year.
“To be honest, I can understand it about Byfield. All my swelling had gone down by Monday. I’m fresh and ready to go back into training again.”
Cheeseman is now a target for Liverpool’s Commonwealth Games gold medallist Anthony Fowler, who has set his sights on a showdown with the Bermondsey man for April or May time.
Further details regarding Cheeseman’s next outing will be revealed in due course.

Never known for a boxer to appeal a medical suspension. They’re given for a reason.
I guess he wants in on some big cash on the Whyte-Chisora II card.

I guess maybe that’ll make him think twice about his leaky defence and willingness to trade unnecessarily? Could do him good in the long run.

Gosh, the guy is keen isn't he?
Already fought heaps this year and he wants to lift a 60 day suspension just so he can get one last fight in before Christmas?
Come on Ted.
Take a break, have a good Christmas and new years, spend some time with your family, root yer missus, she's lovely and we'll see you in 2019

I just came on to write more or less the same thing mate. Fighting some diddy in December will not do him better in the long run than a proper break and some good sparring/training. Nice Xmas and new year under his belt then batter in to it next yearBoxerbeetle wrote: ↑02 Nov 2018, 14:11 I guess maybe that’ll make him think twice about his leaky defence and willingness to trade unnecessarily? Yeah good point as well. He won the last fight well and looked good but he shipped a lot of shots and his dial was a bit of a riot afterwards. Can't fault his willingness, ambition or courage but this is what trainers, managers and handlers are paid to do! Slow him a little. That wank Hearn will get him the fights there's no rush....KiwiRider wrote: ↑02 Nov 2018, 16:22 Gosh, the guy is keen isn't he?

Really like this guy. Didn't know how I'd take to him because we've seen guys like this before ten a penny! Look great but then push it too far and are found out! Ted seems as if he has the extra gear and ingredient to push on. I'm not convinced he'll win a world strap because he's in a hell of a difficult weight class but if he's matched properly then he surely must have a chance! A fringe guy like Trout or Liam Smith would be great middle of next year. Smith would be a good fight. So would Williams actually but hasn't he moved up to 160 now?
Re: Ted Cheeseman To Appeal 60-Day Medical Suspension
Maybe even that's a step too far and I'm getting too far ahead? What you think? I wouldn't blame anyone for saying that tbh but I'm just brain farting while pishedStuarty wrote: ↑02 Nov 2018, 21:13 Really like this guy. Re: Ted Cheeseman To Appeal 60-Day Medical Suspension
I started a thread about Ted's next fight/s for suggestions.
I don't know what he is capable of in the future either.
Given the right experience, definitely Euro level. I would hope he doesn't go for a world until he has at least 20-22 fights with good matching along the way.
It's easy to get excited about him because he is just such darn fun to watch. Given his entertainment factor, I don't really care if he didn't make it beyond UK level. I'd still want to watch him.
Re: Ted Cheeseman To Appeal 60-Day Medical Suspension
Yeah I agree. He's great to watch depending on what you like but as I said in another thread, there was a lot to like about him against Bifield! Bifield was a tough boy but if Ted had 'proper' power he'd have gotten him outta there a reckon? What you think? That's not to say he can't punch because he can but a top level puncher would've chewed Bifield up IMO? Doesn't mean to say he can't refine his technique and swivel n turn in to the punches more, work on timing etc... There's plenty ways the lad can improve and I hope he's given the time to do so! He's got plenty bottle! It's in his teams hands now!KiwiRider wrote: ↑02 Nov 2018, 22:39I started a thread about Ted's next fight/s for suggestions.

I'd like to see him brought along properly n that but I'd still love to see the Fowler fight! That's good match!
More promoters should look at what Cyclone have done with Taylor! Of course it could all go wrong for Josh tomorrow but that's the point! Nobody likes a wee bit of cash more than Bazza but he's still putting his golden goose in hard and is backing him! I wish more people could see the sport for what it was and not the shíte it's painted out to be! Half these grown up casuals feel and think the same way I did when I was like 9/10 following Naz! It took MAB to school Naz for me to open my eyes to the rest of the sport although MAB was always a fav of mine anyway.
Naz is probably the last actual box office star (AJ aside) that we had. We had other big names who had PPV fights but Naz was proper box office!
Anyway, went off on a tangent as I'm full of the powder! Peace out bro's

Think Smith beats him right now.Stuarty wrote: ↑02 Nov 2018, 21:13 Really like this guy. Didn't know how I'd take to him because we've seen guys like this before ten a penny! another license holder is not allowed to spar anyone whose license is suspended.Stuarty wrote: ↑02 Nov 2018, 21:05I just came on to write more or less the same thing mate. I have got a lot of time for Cheeseman but I think Fowler is his likely next fight and I think he loses it.samwbr wrote: ↑04 Nov 2018, 06:40Think Smith beats him right now.Stuarty wrote: ↑02 Nov 2018, 21:13 Really like this guy. I think Harper (new English Champ) vs Cheeseman would be a good fight, they both like a tear-up

Re: Ted Cheeseman To Appeal 60-Day Medical Suspension
The Only thing Cheeseman might of damaged are his hands.
He pretty much battered Byfield for 12 rounds, and was perfectly fine after the bell and showed no signs of distress during the fight.
I’m all for Medical suspensions as boxers need saving from themselves. But this was an easy night for Cheddar Cheese and the suspension is unwarranted.

Re: Ted Cheeseman To Appeal 60-Day Medical Suspension
He pretty much did as he pleased but walked onto a ton of shots whilst doing it, he won by a mile but Byfields resilience meant it was far from easy.PredatorHayds wrote: ↑06 Nov 2018, 10:27 The Only thing Cheeseman might of damaged are his hands.
